We recently connected with Alexandra Rivero and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandra, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience is a testament to the indomitable human spirit, a journey of self-discovery and growth. While the loss of my mother was a profound tragedy, it ignited a fire within me. It forced me to confront my deepest fears and vulnerabilities, and ultimately, to emerge stronger. The world, with its infinite possibilities, serves as a constant source of inspiration, driving me to reach for the stars. The unwavering support of my loved ones has been my lifeline, reminding me that I am never alone. And my mother, a beacon of strength and courage, has taught me that even in the face of adversity, the human spirit can endure. Her legacy, and the lessons I’ve learned from her, continue to fuel my determination to make a positive impact on the world.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My days are a dynamic blend of creativity and compassion. In my day job, I navigate the fast-paced world of advertising as an Account Executive – overseeing impactful campaigns from concept to completion.
But my true passion lies in making a tangible difference in the lives of others. As Co-Founder and Head of Marketing/Events at the Monarch Mental Health Foundation, I’m dedicated to breaking down stigma surrounding mental health and fostering a supportive community. At MMHF, we organize engaging fundraising events, curate thought-provoking & educational content, and collaborate with key stakeholders to raise awareness and drive positive change.
We recently hosted an incredibly successful fundraising event in the heart of Wynwood, raising significant funds for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), and the Monarch Mental Health Foundation (MMHF). The event featured live entertainment, interactive activities, raffles, and information booths/resources, creating a vibrant and inclusive experience for all attendees.
It’s a fulfilling journey, balancing strategic thinking with a deep commitment to mental health. We’re constantly innovating and expanding our reach, so stay tuned for exciting developments!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I’d say three key qualities have shaped my journey: resilience, empathy, and a relentless drive for positive change.
Resilience has been crucial in navigating challenges and setbacks. It’s about bouncing back from failures, learning from mistakes, and persevering in the face of adversity. To cultivate resilience, embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, practice self-compassion, and surround yourself with a supportive network.
Empathy allows me to connect with others on a deeper level, understand their perspectives, and build meaningful relationships. To develop empathy, actively listen to others, practice mindfulness, and seek out diverse experiences.
A relentless drive for positive change fuels my passion and motivates me to make a difference. To foster this drive, identify your passions, set clear goals, and take consistent action. Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and embrace new challenges.
Remember, your journey is unique. Embrace your strengths, learn from your weaknesses, and stay true to your values. With dedication and perseverance, you can achieve great things.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I prioritize self-care. This includes taking breaks to recharge, practicing mindfulness techniques like meditation or deep breathing, and engaging in activities that bring me joy, such as spending time in nature, exercising, or pursuing hobbies.
Here are some strategies that have helped me:
Mindful breaks: Short, frequent breaks can help reduce stress and improve focus.
Physical activity: Exercise releases endorphins, which can boost mood and reduce stress.
Nature therapy: Spending time in nature can have a calming effect on the mind and body.
Hobbies and passions: Engaging in activities you love can help you relax and recharge.
Social connection: Connecting with friends and family can provide support and perspective.
Remember, it’s important to find what works best for you and to be kind to yourself during challenging times. By prioritizing self-care, you can better manage stress and maintain your overall well-being.
