We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexandra Strachan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexandra below.
Alexandra, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I believe my resilience comes from the very thing that once held me back—self-doubt. Rather than letting it stop me, I’ve learned to turn it into fuel. I’m always in a quiet race with myself, striving to grow, evolve, and show up with more purpose each day. I give myself permission to fall, but I also make sure to get back up—stronger, wiser, and more determined. That daily practice of reflection and perseverance is at the heart of who I am and what Speech Without Limits Therapy stands for: growth through grace, and progress without fear of the fall.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a Speech-Language Pathologist and Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist, and I’m the founder of Speech Without Limits Therapy here in the Tampa area. What I love most about what I do is helping families uncover why their child may be struggling — whether it’s with speech sounds, feeding, or breathing — and then giving them the tools and support to make lasting progress. Every child is unique, and I truly believe therapy should feel like a partnership between the clinician, the child, and the family.
My ‘why’ really comes from wanting to create the kind of therapy experience I wish more families had access to — one that’s individualized, empowering, and rooted in connection. Early in my career, I saw so many children with overlapping needs — kids who weren’t just working on speech sounds, but also dealing with breathing patterns, oral muscle weakness, and attention challenges. I wanted to build a space that looked at the whole child, not just the surface-level symptoms. That’s how Speech Without Limits Therapy was born.
The most rewarding part for me is watching children grow in confidence — when communication starts to click, you see this light turn on inside them. It’s not just about clearer speech; it’s about helping them feel seen, capable, and proud of their progress.
Our practice has been growing in some really exciting ways. We’ve welcomed a new Speech-Language Pathology Assistant, partnered with local preschools and private schools, and expanded our specialized myofunctional and feeding services to families across Florida — and even through telehealth in California. We also recently transitioned to a new EMR system to make things even easier for families.
At the heart of it all, my mission stays the same: to help kids and families communicate, connect, and live without limits.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Resilience has carried me through every season of growth — from starting my practice as a one-woman show to now leading a growing team and serving families across Florida. There were moments when things didn’t go as planned, but learning to pivot, reflect, and keep showing up has made all the difference.
Curiosity is what drives me clinically. I’ve always had this deep desire to understand the why behind a child’s challenges — not just treating a lisp, but understanding how breathing, oral posture, and muscle function all connect. That curiosity pushed me into the world of orofacial myofunctional therapy and continues to shape the way I practice every day.
And finally, connection. Building strong relationships with families, other professionals, and my team has been the heart of everything. Speech therapy isn’t just about exercises or goals — it’s about trust, compassion, and helping families feel supported every step of the way.
For anyone early in their journey, my best advice is to stay open and grounded. Be willing to learn, even when it’s uncomfortable. Ask questions, seek mentors, and don’t be afraid to build something that reflects your values. The most meaningful success comes when you lead with heart and stay true to your purpose.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
If I knew I only had a decade left to live, I would spend that time making sure I leave the world better than I found it. My focus would shift toward creating a lasting impact — something that continues to help others even after I’m gone. I would channel my energy into building a few meaningful foundations or programs that provide financial and emotional support to families facing hardship, especially those struggling to afford essential therapies for their children. No parent should have to choose between giving their child what they need and staying afloat financially.
Beyond that, I would pour my heart into raising my daughter to grow into a kind, compassionate, and strong young woman. I would teach her that success isn’t measured by wealth or accolades, but by how we treat others — by empathy, integrity, and love. I’d show her, through both words and actions, the importance of giving back, of seeing the good in people, and of standing up for what’s right.
Ultimately, my goal would be to spend my final years building a legacy rooted in love, service, and human connection — something that would keep making a difference long after my time here is done.
