Alexandre , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
I’m originally from Brazil ,coming from a rumble family and I grow up seen the lack of opportunity . Dance offer me the opportunity to dream and fight for a better future.
I have always have to do do much work , for get my place under the sun. Being a queer person and a society that don’t understand and underestimated it was always the Gasoline to keep me reaching for my place!
I always felt different , and for some people it was my wicked part, but for me is my biggest stretch!
I see theses two side evert time when I in a room full of opportunities . I learned for coming for so little that I have nothing to loose and I’m trying very time overcome and be my best version in the moment
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m Alexandre Barranco, 35 years, old, originally from Campinas-Brazil .
I started dancing in Nonprofit ABAMBA (Association of benectors and friends for Boy Dancers/Actors) organization designer to give opportunities for boys with lack of opportunities in the favelas of my city.
My entire adolescence was focus entirely in the the dream of becoming a dancer/artist/performer. I finish high school at the same time I graduated at the at my 6 years dance program studies at ABAMBA.
My first dance job was at Taubaté City Ballet and later São José Dos Campos Dance Company.
I moved to NYC in the of 2014 with a dream to learn more about dance and find a international opportunity carrier.I got Scholarship to the Certificate Program at Peridance Center for two year while I was apprentice with the prestigious Peridance Contemporary Dance Company directed by Igal Perry . Since 2016 I became a company member got my O-1 visa(Artist visa).
With Peridance I had some many great opportunities as dancer, I work with incredible choreographers such Robert Battle, Lar Lubrovich, Marlena Wolf, Norbert The La Cruz the III, Desmon Richard, Alice Klockand my others. Plus the incredibly opportunity to perform abroad in national and internationally.
It’s been 10 incredible years of dedication and towards that work I just recently got my EB-1 application approved which gave the green card to continuing working in US with lesss concerns about visas. Everything came from a big enfort of believe in the dream every day.
In the moment I’m preparing myself with Peridance for our Sring Concert when I will future in two dance work one by their artist director Igal Perry and Mizuro Kappa.
In July Peridance will be performing at Florence Dance Festival in Italy this summer.

In July go this year I ll be visiting Brazil to offer dance workshops and choreographing to give back to my country something that a have learned in all this years of carrier.
This probably my last year as dancer for peridance, I’m transitioning into a new fase of my artistic life now and is not so clear where is gonna lead me, but for sure somewhere else where I continue telling the story three the lenses os the ART.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The best Quality that I have is passion, second persistency and third consistency.
In major focus my life in dance, I did tried to learn all the styles, that served me to be more versatile and speaking with more range . I did focus in the this the a Love more such ballet, modern and contemporary styles.
For an artist is very important to find what you truly love , and it can take some time to find out, but once you get that answer try to expands that to many possibilities. Training is part of the entire carrier , wu always learning something new. have an open mind and a space in the glass you make you grow much faster . Had the mind set that I never know enough gives this inspiration to keep on trying and focus on learning and improving and it takes time to really become what we wanna . The process in time also is very fascinating
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m 10 dancing with Peridance Contemporary Dance and now I wanna explore different areas of performing arts , such a Circus in Hoop, pole, singing ,musical theater, acting. I love to connected with Artist that made transitions like that for one art to another…
My dream will be participating in show that combines ,dance, circus, act, singing. I.ll love to connect with people who already know how to make it happen
