We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexia Garcia del Rio. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexia below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Alexia with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I think both my father and grandfather were always figures of hard work and determination. They taught me the importance of hard work, and becoming financially independent in this world. My grandfather worked until he’s very last day on earth, managing his business and properties. I am proud to have them as an example.
My work ethic consists of hard work, determination, resilience, being humble and knowing that there is always room for growth.
Find mentors, people you look up to and that have more experience in the field. Don’t take on responsibilities you are not ready for due to ambition, your time will come if you learn to wait, listen and do what is required of you.
Ambition is good, as well as being assertive, but never stop being humble and admitting that you should always keep on learning.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Alexia Garcia del Rio. I currently work at the Daily Wire, a company where I produce, direct and I am the production manager of several shows and documentaries. I am the production manager for the Jordan Peterson show, and handle at the same time other specials that the company does and documentaries.
I handle logistics and crews all over the world. We’ve shot in most countries in Europe, in Australia, Central America, Canada and North America.
My work and career is my passion, I am fortunate that every day I get to go to work is my hobby and what I would be doing in my free time. The people I work with are exceptional, and I have amazing mentors that have made me grow very fast.
I started as an Associate Producer in 2019, I was rapidly promoted 9 months later to post production manager and director. After two years on that role in which I managed the creative department of 11 people, I became production manager. In this role I was given great responsibilities, a lot of work, but the most rewarding feeling I have yet experienced.
Prior to my time at Daily Wire, I directed, produced and acted as a production designer for over 20 short films. I wrote and directed a short film that was nominated for 11 awards in the United States. I love my craft and take my work very seriously. The film is called “A land where children play”, I just released it on YouTube. It is the story about a Jewish grandfather that has to learn to live with he’s daughters adopted Muslim son.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Personally, I think being humble, always admitting you don’t know everything and that there is always room for growth will take you far. Never be too proud to do the work that you feel is beneath you, people notice even the smallest things. I remember when I started I was given a mundane and boring task of filling out a time sheet for the shows. I created my own model after researching what information was the most useful for the director, and now they still use my model to this day.
As a leader, I am very assertive and stern, but at the same time very sensitive to the needs of others. I expect good work from those I hire, and I never settle, but at the same time I try to guide and mentor, not just criticize.
You should always step strong, and if there are things you don’t specifically know in your craft, learn it, research it and excel at it when the time comes. I was thrown into projects I had no idea how to work on, but I rapidly learnt the needs and expectations of the role and became good at it. Don’t be defeated by what you don’t know, instead be motivated and inspired to learn.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am looking for designers and animators to work on a project with me. It is in the early stages of development. This is outside of the organization I work for, it is my own project.
