We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexis Baier a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alexis , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I am still struggling with this- but we all have to start somewhere! I really believe in the phrase “fake it til you make it.” Why should I feel less than or not worth it? I have every right to be here! It’s a continuing challenge that I have to face all the time. I sometimes don’t know what I am doing! But I really think just asking yourself why not you? You got this! And honestly just being yourself, being humble, and being kind. Life is just a big lesson!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am an actress and real estate agent in SoCal. I am also newly-ish married (two years this October 29th!)
I live with my husband and our two furbabies, Teddi and Boo the cats.
I am excited for my new real estate journey, as I just earned my license this past summer! I am excited to see where this career takes me! I have also been studying a lot for my acting career. I have been doing a lot of improv at the Groundlings. I am so ready to get back on set too! I signed commercially this past summer too and I am now looking to add to my team! I also have a wonderful career coach for my acting- she has been so helpful with her guidance and knowledge. I really feel lile the possibilities are endless!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities that are most impactful to my journey are positivity, patience, and openness.
I think staying the course, having and keeping the faith, and remaining optimistic are key. I worry too much about the hows, whens, and whys and I am really trying to be better about that.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me were always being my cheerleaders. They never second guessed my choices and never swayed me from my dreams. They have supported me from day one. Without them I wouldn’t be able to do what I do or be who I am. They are my biggest fans.
