We were lucky to catch up with Alexis Brooks recently and have shared our conversation below.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My practice is unique in that I work exclusively with women’s health related concerns through an integrative and functional lens. I take a root cause approach that treats the person as a whole, not in parts or merely the symptoms, As as a result, people are able to experience healing. As a registered dietitian, I understand the power of nutrition. At the same time, I have an understanding of the nuances of food and the profound role culture and our relationship with food plays in our overall health. I work with clients to create a customized plan that is tailored to their life. You won’t find me handing out any cookie cutter meal plans or recommending any restrictive diets. In life there is a harmony and balance to everything. This is one of the things people who I work with appreciate the most about me. Additionally, in my practice I don’t focus solely on food and nutrition. I guide my clients through lifestyle modifications as well. This includes optimizing sleep and movement in addition to home and personal care products.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think the top 3 would be willingness to make mistakes, being open minded and the foresight to see my goals through. These did not come easy to me though. I feel they’re like a muscle you have to continue to train. I’ve gotten stuck many of times due to perfectionism and analysis paralysis. Gradually, I’ve learned to prepare as much as you can and then execute. It’s easy to wait for the perfect conditions to accomplish something but that will likely only delay your progress. Having people around me who challenge and inspire me has been very helpful. My community has been instrumental in my journey.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Absolutely! I always love collaborating with other women’s health professionals of all sorts including, pelvic floor physical therapists, doulas and gynecologists. In addition, professionals who take an integrative approach are great collaborators. I’m looking forward to doing workshops and providing a variety of other resources to women.
