We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexis Gonzalez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?
For as long as I can remember, I have intuitively understood the massive importance of following my path–despite the judgments of outsiders.
In the time that I was a background actress years ago, I went to a show hosted by Steve Harvey. After each show, he would give a motivational speech to the audience. He once shared a story that resonates with me to this day. He shared about how he had a stuttering issue in his childhood, yet he had the dream to become a television host. When he came to his teacher with this dream, she humiliated him in front of the class and told him that no one would ever put him on television with his speaking impediments. Despite this, he persisted and felt it was his god-given purpose to do so. Cut to that moment of me sitting in front of this wildly successful man, who indeed had fulfilled his childhood dreams, despite the perspective of others. Inside I knew that this applied directly to my life.
I have had family members who doubted if I was on the right path, and have felt the quiet judgments of those who watched the steps I took. In contrast, I have also felt the loving support of others as I moved forward to forge my own path. Yet neither dictates what choices I make. I have learned to follow that inner voice that calls me to take action, to create, and to follow my path–much like the “God-given” inspiration that Steve Harvey spoke of from his childhood.
I reason that life is too short to live another’s story. In my book, “A Journey into Truth: Unveiling Life’s Secrets for Truth-Seekers,” I have a section called “Choose for Yourself.” I talk about living life by your voice, choice, and opinion. It is a tragedy to follow the desires of well-meaning parents, friends, or peers if they are not your own. They don’t know what is best for you–only you can know your path. This is how I intend to live my life.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I wear many hats! I have a multi-media company called Vibrate to Create. I teach on the Vibrate to Create YouTube channel, teach Family Constellations workshops, facilitate one-on-one Constellations, teach spiritual courses, speak in public about spirituality/philosophy, write books, and continue to evolve as time flows. I have been in training for almost ten years in spiritual/metaphysical fields, as well as in business and public speaking.
My deepest passion is for teaching about Family Constellations. Of the many modalities that I have learned (psychism, mediumship, Reiki, trance healing, EFT, etc.) this was the most life-changing for me. Because of the personal benefits I have had from it, I love to share this work online, in person, at spiritual stores, centers, and retreats. It is a modality that can help shift people’s lives who have not had success with other forms of holistic healing, therapies, or other interventions.
As for what I have in store: I am building an online Family Constellations course, as well as a book about the subject. I’m also working on collaborating with more and more spaces to bring this work all around the world. There are plenty of exciting milestones to come for Vibrate to Create and my future ventures!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that were most impactful in my journey were: curiosity, resilience, and persistence.
Curiosity fueled my desire to learn and stay open to new information. With a light-hearted, child-like mind, we can learn so much more than if we felt we knew all we needed to know. As the old saying goes, a glass that is already full has no room for new information. This trait allowed me to learn new skills like publishing books, speaking in front of people, spiritual/philosophical truths, and has been why my life has changed for the better. I’ve met incredible people, as well as have had soul-fulfilling moments because of this quality.
Resilience allowed me to keep going on my course, even when life was tough. I never steered away from knowing and pursuing my goals because of this trait. All too often, challenges discourage people from continuing on their journey. If I see obstacles with the mindset that they are shaping me for what I am meant to do, then I have the trust that no matter if it’s tough now, if I stay the course I will see out what I set out to do.
Persistence is also very crucial to my journey. I once heard of Joseph Campbell’s (author of Chicken Soup for the Soul) beginnings. Despite the obstacles of receiving plenty of rejections for his books, he persisted and persisted until a door opened. That door would lead him to become an incredibly successful author, whose books are widely recognizable by many people. He received 144 rejections before one opportunity. That is serious persistence to keep your eye on the prize, no matter how many “no’s” you receive. Persistence and adaptability are a force to be reckoned with, if you have the strength to keep at it, and the belief that you can do it.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am looking for other teachers who would like to collaborate with me in hosting retreats/gatherings. I’ve been in search of retreats all over the world and would love to work with others in bringing groups together for spiritual transformation, a sense of community, and learning from other cultures.
If you are a spiritual teacher and would like to work with me in doing so, or if you/someone you know would like to be a guest on my podcast “The Truth-Seeker Society,” I would like to hear from you! I can be reached by e-mail at [email protected].
