We recently connected with Alexis Heggs and have shared our conversation below.
Alexis, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose as a teenager. When my mom purchased an RCA camcorder for the family, she showed me how to operate it. And I took a liking to filming all of our family events and just random skits my sister and I would put together just for fun. Nothing written on paper just improving. I knew then that filming and acting is what I would love to do. And it came to pass and I’m doing that. I’m very thankful.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I attended Georgia State University and earned my associate’s degree in film and Acting. I am an actor with 9 years of experience. I’ve been a technical director for over 16 years. I wrote, produced, and acted in my first short film last year. I’m a casting director. I am the owner and founder of the Lex Entertainment Networking event. I started hosting my own Networking events 8 months ago and it’s growing with filmmakers and all entertainers attending.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Acting is one. I’m more of a natural actor, I’ve been told by multiple people. Acting for me is a challenge to studying a character and convincing the audience that you are that character. Also, as a Technical Director which is my first love. It requires skills to switch from over 6 or more cameras on a switchboard. Creating a movie without editing it is what I explained it to be. Lastly, hosting Networking events is a way of Networking and meeting other filmmakers within itself. I’m meeting new people from all over the world who are very talented.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing that my mom and dad have done. My mom encouraged me to continue studying media production in college. But she also told me to be sure to study a second career to have a second career knowing that filming and acting is sometimes hard to get into or be accepted in. And I’m grateful for the advice that I took. My Dad encouraged me to work hard in all that I do and never give up.
