We were lucky to catch up with Alexis Stein recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Our confidence and self-esteem branches from years of hard-work, which includes, but not limited to, practice, our peers and colleagues suggestions and recommendations, real world experiences, and support from our family and closest friends, After a few years of dedication and commitment to our craft, we were able to find our place in the wedding world as successful photographers, and this allowed us to remain confident enough to move forward with this as a full-time profession,
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
In our professional careers, we are wedding and portrait photographers. The choice to forge ahead in a creative realm has allowed us to stay focused on something truly important to us, something we have honed in on since we were both young. It feels really rewarding to be able to deliver beautiful photographs to couples and families who have their hearts set on preserving these momentous occasions in their lives through photography. Since the start, we have always been driven by the relationships of the people around us. The process of getting to know the people we work with has always played an important role in the photography we provide to our clients. Through getting know them, beyond the surface level of a professional working relationship, we are able to capture people in their truest form, they are able to be themselves. This level of trust and comfort goes a long way when capturing people in their most vulnerable moments in life. You can see this in our work when you scroll through the years of work we have shared on social media.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Our strongest quality is our ability to connect with people. This plays such an important role when it comes to photographing people. Whether it is a wedding, an anniversary, a birthday, or just a family photo, you are capturing love, emotion, and personal events. This quality has proven to break down the barriers of those professional relationships by making it more personal.
Understanding light is also a strong skill we both possess. On site, it comes in handy, and it helps us provide the best possible results.
Managing time is an area of knowledge that is often overlooked when it comes to planning an important event, and we understand how much time it takes to have the results our clients have come to know and love about our work. We like to be transparent and let our clients know that it is often impossible to fit ten pounds of potatoes in a five pound bag.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
We rely a lot on each other for inspiration and we also learn so much from one another. Working with your spouse can be challenging at times, but we find it more rewarding than anything. We fell in love while starting on this business partnership together.
