Alexis, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My grandma has always been a woman who works for what she wants. Since I was a little girl I have always watched her work 2 jobs, sometimes even 3. She is the most determined and blessed woman I know. When I need motivation or slow down in my creative process I can always count on her to get me back in motion. So thankful I have her as en example, and at 82 she is still working!

Paralegal by day, business owner by night is the best way to describe my occupation. I am wanting to further my legal career and hopefully own my own practice one day. I am also the owner of AKT Extensions, SneakHER Closet, and AKT Fits. AKT Extensions is a luxury hair extension company that carries a variety of wigs and extensions.i started it in 2018 after I wanted to create a consumer friendly hairline in today’s economy. SneakHER Closet started off in 2020 as just a passion of to showcase my sneaker collection but is transitioning into a boutique for the sneaker community. AKT Fits was founded in 2022 to offer wardrobe styling and other services to clients who wanted to upgrade their fashion sense and expression.
For the next half of 2023, AKT Extensions will be ravamping and bring 4 solid collections. SneakHER Closet will start hosting popups in major cities to bring awareness that girls wear kicks too! I am also working on a nonprofit project I will hopefully be able to bring to life in 2024.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Discipline, Prayer, and having a good support system were the 3 most impactful things that have helped me along my journey. Discipline creates habits and therefore you train yourself to act in a way that is beneficial to you goals. You can have an idea, but you must be discipline enough to finish and bring it to life. Along with my grandmother’s work ethic, she also instilled in me to pray over and about everything, Faith without works is dead and that is true. God has definitely blessed me and got me through every obstacle so far in this entrepreneurship. I cannot thank my friends enough for listening to my countless frustrations and rants through my creative journey. A good support system is essential in making sure your mind, body, and spirit is right during the process because it can get stressful and hectic at times.
