We were lucky to catch up with Alexis Washington recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alexis , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose by discovering the gifts and strengths inside of me. I became who God designed me to be when I decided to roll with the resistance of life and play on my natural gifts and talents. I also found my purpose by helping others discover their own purpose.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a Licensed Mastered Social Worker and i currently serve as an academic counselor for college students. I am also an entrepreneur. I own the brand Lex Luxe Essentials and I am currently working on creating a community for people to empower, educate, and elevate at every level of life. I plan to have classes, retreats, and conferences for people that are ready to discover themselves and their purpose. I will also be one of the founders of a new nonprofit organization that will be established in 2024. My ultimate goal in anything and everything that I do is to assist people in finding their purpose and creating a life that best serves them through tangible outcomes with faith based principles.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would said the three things that were most impactful on my journey, would be curiosity, faith, and persistence. I am a lover of learning so i am always looking for new ways to learn how to become my best self and teach others to do the same. I said curiosity first because this is what further developed my faith. In the winter of 2019 I spent the entire winter by myself on YouTube looking up things that I hoped to do one day, starting with how to open a boutique. However, I couldn’t figure out why God put the desire in my heart. It was a few months later when I realized that it was because he knew that i wanted to help people find their purpose and make them feel good, and when you look good you feel good. I included faith in the top 3 because it is the only thing that got me started and will keep me going. Having faith in the God that I serve has allowed me to develop confidence and resilience and both of these are needed to approach and serve people that are hungry for hope and wanting a better life. Persistence is on this list because my faith has always forced me to keep going despite all odds.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The one obstacle I am currently facing would be reach. I can see my brand Lex Luxe Essentials growing, but I know that it is time to take it to another level. With the ever changing landscape of social media, I am now educating on myself on how to stay up to date and how to have a market strategy that is outside of only Instagram posting. I am building my newsletter and trying new market strategies. I know that God is calling me to incorporate my clothing brand into my desire to host classes and events and I am figuring that out by staying close to Him, reading my word, and doing the inner work to see how God will tie it all together through intentional design.
