We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexys Meneses. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexys below.
Alexys , appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I’ve learned that my creativity thrives when I give myself space to explore and play. Whether it’s discovering a new café, walking through a local farmers or flea market, or even just walking down a busy street in my city, I love soaking in new experiences, and they often spark ideas for new projects along the way.
Music is another big part of how I stay creative. I always have something playing when I’m baking or designing, and I’ve found that it helps me get into a flow where I’m able to concentrate on purely expressing my creativity. Also, the right playlist totally sets the vibe, whether I’m decorating cupcakes or sketching new ideas for my cupcakes.
As a graphic designer, I make it a point to design just for myself sometimes. No rules, no client briefs, just pure creative freedom. That kind of uninhibited expression helps me stay inspired and reminds me why I fell in love with both design and baking in the first place. Combining those passions, along with exploring and creating in my own rhythm, keeps my imagination fresh and my work full of my personality.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’ve been baking since I was about seven years old, and it’s always been something that brings me happiness and freedom. A little over a year ago, I decided to turn that lifelong passion into something real and started Lucky Girl Bakery. It’s been such an exciting journey, and I get to combine my love for design, creativity, and baking all in one place!
Along with baking, I have a background in graphic design. I earned my BFA in Graphic Design at Woodbury University, and I’m currently pursuing my Master’s in Digital Media Management at USC. Design has always been a huge part of who I am, and I love using it to bring extra personality to Lucky Girl Bakery, whether that’s through custom cupcake toppers, branding, or packaging.
Right now, my main focus is growing Lucky Girl Bakery and continuing to create custom cupcakes for any occasion! Both mini and regular sizes! I’m always experimenting with new designs and recipes, and we’re planning to expand our menu soon to include even more fun treats.
The next big step for us is joining local farmers’ markets around Los Angeles, so people can come try our cupcakes in person! It’s been so rewarding to be a part of events and collaborate with organizations to see people connect with something that started as a small idea in my kitchen. I can’t wait to keep growing, creating, and sharing more of what makes Lucky Girl Bakery special!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I’d say the three qualities that have made the biggest impact on my journey are consistency, curiosity, and confidence.
Consistency has been everything for me. Whether it’s baking, designing, or building my brand, I’ve learned that showing up, even on the days when motivation is low, is what really creates growth. My advice for anyone just starting out is to keep practicing, keep posting, keep creating. You don’t have to be perfect; you just have to keep growing.
Curiosity is what keeps things exciting for me. I love learning new things, from design trends to baking techniques to social media strategies. Staying curious helps me stay adaptable and open-minded, which is so important when you’re building something creative. I’m a firm believer that you should never stop exploring or experimenting. Some of the best ideas come from simply trying something new without worrying if it’ll work out.
And finally, confidence, which definitely took time to build. Especially as a creative, it’s easy for doubt and comparisons to creep in. But the moment I started trusting my vision and owning my unique style, everything started to feel more authentic and aligned. My advice is to believe in what makes you different. Confidence grows the more you put yourself out there, so don’t hold back from sharing your work or your story.
All three have shaped not just my business, but who I am as a creator.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents ever did for me was that they never once doubted my creativity or my drive to build something of myself. From the time I was little, they’ve always believed in me. Even when my ideas were a little out there or when I didn’t fully believe in myself yet. That kind of unwavering support is something I’ll always hold close and be very grateful for.
They’ve been there for every step of the journey. Staying up late with me to finish orders, driving with me to deliveries, working events, helping me set up tables or decorations, and of course, being my official taste testers for every new recipe I come up with. No matter how busy life gets, they’ve always found a way to show up for me and remind me why I started.
My parents have taught me what dedication, patience, and love really look like. They pushed me to get my license early so I could be independent and chase opportunities, but they also made sure I knew I was never alone in the process.
I owe so much of Lucky Girl Bakery to them. Their belief in me is what gave me the courage to take my passion seriously and turn it into something real. Everything I create is, in a way, a reflection of the values they gave me, hard work, creativity, and love.
