Meet Aleysia Leonor

We recently connected with Aleysia Leonor and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Aleysia, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
The journey to becoming a more confident person was not easy. I grew up not sure what I was even good at and I didn’t feel like I was worthy of anything. Depression and anxiety clouded my mind and I believed all the negative things my brain said about me. But at 18 I moved to San Jose in order to find out who I wanted to be. Living on my own was the first step I took to see what I was capable of. My parents didn’t think I was ready, so I wanted to prove to them that I was able to take care of myself. Every year I made it living on my own built a solid foundation of confidence that I could be responsible enough to do basic adult things. The people I met in different social settings also played a big part in growing my confidence. People I would interact with would tell me that I am a good, sweet and hardworking person. Whenever I would share my dreams and ambitions, I was met with encouragement from my peers. Fast forward to 2019, I went to this conference for World System Builder. The good energy and inspiration I felt from all these successful people lit a fire under me to want to strike out on my own. I came back home constantly watching videos and podcasts where people who were more successful than me, were explaining how they made it. Once I started my dog training business in September of 2019, I was determined to show myself how high I can go up. Over the last 4 years, whenever I would finish a program with a client, they expressed their gratitude and I saw how much happier their families became once we were done working together. Every successful case added on another building block of confidence that I could proudly stand on. When clients started coming back for my services and referring people to me, it shot my confidence up even more! I realized that I really am good at what I do and people appreciate my efforts. All the kind words my clients exchanged with me have been such a saving grace. The trust they put in to me has made me feel like I can do anything I set my mind to. Watching my business grow steadily every year makes me feel proud to be me.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
As I said in the first question, I own a dog training business called Doggie&Me LLC. However, I also provide walking and boarding services. The most exciting part about being a dog trainer/ dog sitter is that I get to connect with all types of people and dogs. My passion is creating community and providing trustworthy animal care services that people can rely on. My goal is to open other humans up to realizing how complex and amazing their dogs can be. I want to show people how dogs are so similar to us and with the right amount of training and bonding, the relationship between human and dog can be symbiotic. In addition, my other goal is to open up a shelter that takes in animals who haven’t been able to find forever homes and help them live a comfortable life until they move on by finding a family or passing peacefully. When an animal is stuck in a traditional shelter environment, they are scared and people can’t really see what their true personality is. I believe this is part of what keeps some of these animals from finding a home. In the spirit of creating community, I also want to implement a program through my shelter where I can provide homeless people room and board in exchange for helping take care of the animals. Ideally I would take in dogs, cats, bunnies, reptiles and birds. I’m currently looking to recruit people who would be interested in making my dream a reality within the next 3-5 years. I realized that true happiness for myself lies in serving my community and helping others in my own way. I want to be able to look back at my life and feel like I made a significant impact in trying to make the world a better and safer place for all creatures.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Tenacity, patience and knowing how to market yourself. Having these 3 things helped propel me forward in my journey. In order to be successful, you have to be willing to take the risk and try. Do not focus on the “what if I fail” part of things because, even if you do fail, you’ll learn valuable lessons so you can make things better the next time around. Desire your success as much as you want to breathe! Be patient, not everything comes quickly and building trust is vital with your customers so they can refer you to others as well as create client retention. By learning how to market myself, especially in this digital age, it’s helped me find clients that I enjoy working with. For those of you who provide a service, really visualize the kind of people you want to work with and don’t feel like you need to say yes to every single person. Since I started being more selective in who I work with, my mental health has improved a lot and I don’t burnout as much because I’m having a good time throughout the whole process. Lastly, don’t forget to celebrate yourself when you have small or big wins! Be proud of what you have accomplished, even if it’s something small. Celebrating small wins helps you grow confidence and motivation to keep pushing forward.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes! I would love to find people who would like to collaborate for events and are interested in helping me open my animal shelter. I’m looking for people who are empathetic, love all kinds of animals, enjoy working with others as a team and have a passion for community building. You may contact me through email at doggieobedience@gmail.com. Or you can send me a DM through IG, @doggieobedience or Facebook, my Facebook page is Doggie&Me LLC.
