Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alfredo El Rojo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alfredo , appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
People always ask me how I keep my creativity alive… and honestly, it’s because I never stopped creating for myself. I don’t let photography become just work. I keep it as my refuge, my hobby, my personal space.
When I’m not shooting for clients, I go out and create just because I feel like it — no pressure, no plan, no thinking about whether it’ll sell or not.
That’s what keeps the spark alive: remembering that I started this out of passion, not obligation.
And every time I pick up my camera just to enjoy it, I fall in love with photography all over again.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a photographer based in South Florida, and what I do goes way beyond taking pictures — I tell stories through light, emotion, and connection. My work moves between fashion and weddings, but what really drives me is capturing something real. I love those in-between moments — the laughter, the silence, the vulnerability. That’s where the truth lives, and that’s what I want people to feel when they see my photos.
What I find most exciting is that photography never stays still. Every person, every face, every bit of light teaches me something new. It keeps me humble and hungry to grow.
And honestly, I keep my creativity alive by creating for myself. I don’t let photography turn into just work — it’s still my passion, my escape, my favorite way to disconnect and reconnect at the same time. Some of my best ideas come when I’m just out shooting with no plan, no pressure, just me and the camera.
Right now, I’m expanding more into editorial and bridal boudoir — helping women, especially brides, see themselves with power, elegance, and authenticity. It’s about celebrating who they are before the big day, not just how they look. That’s the kind of art I want to keep creating — honest, human, and full of soul.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I’d say the three most important things that shaped my journey are curiosity, resilience, and emotional awareness.
Curiosity keeps me evolving. I never stop learning — new techniques, lighting setups, or even just understanding people better. The moment you think you know everything, you stop growing. My advice: stay curious, try new things, and don’t be afraid to fail in the process. Every mistake is a new tool in your creative kit.
Resilience has been essential. This path isn’t easy — there are dry seasons, canceled shoots, clients who don’t see your value, and moments where you doubt yourself. But every time you get back up and keep creating, you grow a little stronger. That’s where real progress happens.
And the third one is emotional awareness. Photography, for me, isn’t just about light and composition — it’s about people. If you don’t learn to read emotions, connect, and make others feel comfortable, you’ll miss the soul of your subject. My best images come from trust, not from gear.
For anyone starting out, I’d say: keep your curiosity alive, build resilience like a muscle, and never forget that photography is 80% heart and 20% technique.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Without a doubt, the person who’s been most helpful in my journey is my sister, friend, partner, and colleague — Stephany Ramírez.
She’s been there through every stage — from the moments of chaos and doubt to the big wins. Stephany has this incredible ability to see potential even when I can’t, and she pushes me to grow as an artist and as a person. We challenge each other creatively, and that’s what keeps both of us evolving.
Beyond the professional side, she’s my grounding force. She reminds me why we started — not just to take pictures, but to create something meaningful that connects with people. Having someone like her by my side has made every challenge easier to face and every dream feel possible.
