Meet Ali Boston

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ali Boston a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Ali , so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
When I started my journey to become a successful makeup artist I had someone very close to me doubt my career choice. With many years of hard work, dedication and perseverance I was able to not only be successful but admired for my work.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I have been in the makeup and hair industry for almost 20 years. For the past five years of my career I have been able to travel and see the world doing what I love. I feel celebrated in what I do and it is well known that I educate and lift others up to become a successful artist themselves. I have worked in almost all aspects of this wonderful creative industry.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
While developing my craft it was a long journey to get to where I am today. I spent a lot of years working in the service industry before becoming completely financially independent and fully working in my career. A long career in the industry requires more than just skill. To be successful as an artist you must be charismatic, confident, respectful, resilient and innovative. The best advice I can give to anyone looking to become a makeup or hair artist is to be patient; the career will not happen overnight.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
One of the most impactful things my parents ever did was show me how to work hard. My parents provided a stable and good life. I am so lucky to have sustained my work ethic from their example. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
