Meet Ali Goras

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ali Goras. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Ali, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Since I was little, I was always called to follow a career path that helped people. I also was fascinated by what the human body was capable of and always questioned everything (my poor mother!). Throughout highschool I was obsessed with pushing my body and training. Volleyball was my sport of choice. Not long after graduation I decided to set the goal of competing in a bodybuilding competition. This endeavor taught me so much and got me even more fascinated with what the body was capable of. However, I was in it for all the wrong reasons. I had always been so critical of my body and had a poor relationship with food and here I was drastically restricting what I ate and being judged on my outward appearance. Throughout this competing process I began to really struggle with bulimia. It began to control my days, and once I no longer had the goal for a show I spiraled. As my disorder got worse, my long term boyfriend at the time decided to break up with me to force me to get help which sent me spiraling even further. My purpose no longer existed. I was numbing any chance I could, doing drugs, drinking or sleeping the day away. I felt so lost, but always had a voice in the back of my mind telling me that I had a bigger purpose than the life that I was living. Finally once I graduated from undergrad, I decided enough was enough. I knew there was more out there for me and I decided to move to Charlotte with my brother and get a fresh start. But it’s so fascinating how God will really force you into what you were put on this earth to do no matter what. Once I moved I was no longer doing drugs, I was doing so much better, but I still was ignoring what I knew I was capable of. I was still escaping through exercise, not truly listening to my body and just thinking I was “doing better” because I replaced one escape with a healthier one. A few years into moving down south I got a severe back injury, herniating two discs in my back, leaving me in debilitating pain, barely able to walk. Looking back now, I know this was God telling me to WAKE UP. The journey that was now thrust upon me to heal my back was forcing me into a bigger purpose I could no longer escape or ignore. My rooted beliefs in natural healing that I had had my whole life were now being put to work. I was determined to not get surgery, researching and trying every other avenue I could. After a treacherous experience going from one medical doctor, to chiropractor, to physical therapist to neurologist I felt hopeless but I was never ready to give up. I knew that this experience was thrusting me into my purpose and that was to empower people about their own health and be a guide to helping the body heal itself.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

After my experience with healing my back on my own along with an amazing Chiropractor after a lot of trial and error, I knew I needed to go to Chiropractic school. On my first few days there, everything I was learning was only solidifying even more that I made the right decision and that I was truly on my purpose. Within school I was introduced Network Spinal Chiropractic Care. Network Spinal is a super gentle and specific form of Chiropractic that unwinds tension within the nervous system allowing for the person to experience a more vibrant, healthy, authentic life. Once I was introduced to this, I knew I had to learn more. After getting under consistent Network Spinal Care I could not even believe what I was experiencing or that this was even possible for me! Everything became so much clearer, I was no longer efforting to listen to my body, my purpose or my passion! I was on fire again for helping others, and saw a whole new level that this could be experienced at. I was no longer just out to help people avoid surgery or pain, I was now set out to help people live their lives in their most authentic expression of who they are and share their own gifts! I knew I had gone through so many challenges to get me to this point to be able to help others that may be going through the same struggles. All of my set backs and obstacles were quickly turning into gifts of waking me up to who I truly was and what I was capable with sharing with the world. Now I am a Network Spinal Chiropractor and get to share my own experience with everyone who comes into my office and watch them have an experience of their own. I get to witness people blossom into who they were truly meant to be through this remarkable care. I am set out to empower others to feel connected, coherent, vibrant and know what their bodies are capable of, not just on a physical level, but a spiritual level as well by having an awakening to truly sharing their gifts with others and healing themselves by listening to their body and having a nervous system free from interference.
This year I plan to have a retreat in Greenville SC to have an opportunity to even further guide people into this connection with themsevles and others. I am so excited to facilitate a life changing event and cannot wait to see what is in store for the future of sharing this magical work of Network Spinal Care!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. A huge game changer for me was allowing myself to see setbacks as opportunities. When you are truly following and in alignment with your purpose, every set back is allowing you to learn and furthering you on your tragectory to fulfulling your purpose. It may sound cheesy but trust the process, everything is the energy that you bring to it. Practice allowing yourself to feel into the perspective of “this is happening for me” rather than “why is this happening to me”.
2. Always continuing to learn and invest in yourself. I’ve gone to so many seminars and learning opportunities, you never know what nugget of information you might pick up that will help you continue to excel and keep you motivated and driven when things feel difficult along your journey. I also invested time and money in getting Network Spinal care regularly. Having a clear nervous system has been so crucial along my journey to keep me in alignment physically, mentally, and spiritually.
3. Get clear on what it is you are set out to do and ask yourself if what you are currently doing is in alignment with it. For example, what is future you doing, what do they feel like, who are they hanging out with? Visualize that and then start aligning what you’re doing now to get you there.
4. Okay one more! Know what energizes you and also what may drop your energy. What fills your cup and inspires you when the vision becomes hard to see and the journey gets rocky. For me it’s surrounding myself with family and friends, going to a seminar to remind myself of the impact of what I’m doing, dancing and spending time outside! And also what tends to feel like its draining to you? How can you make some things that may drain that are necessary on your to do list feel more exciting and fun?
One experience that was the most impactful for me was an experience I had with a neurologist. I went into his office to go over the results of an MRI I had gotten. I was in so much pain and just in search for any sort of answers and help. During my visit the neurologist was so rude to me and made me feel so uncomfortable. I expressed to him that I really did not want to get surgery and he basically said “good luck but I’ll see you in a month for shots and surgery” and sent me on my way. I felt like I was at the end of my rope dealing with the pain and setbacks I had been experiencing but this doubt from him lit a fire in me. I knew I had to be a guide for others so they didn’t have to have the same experience I had. I wanted to not only prove him wrong but be a shining light for others in the future to empower them that their body can heal on its own!

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

My biggest area of growth is having the realization that just because things have been done a certain way in the past does not mean thats how they always need to be done. I spent a lot of time with my business trying to fit it in a certain box of how things are “usually done” in other Chiropractic offices rather than doing things that were in alignment with my own vision. I felt like I was forcing a lot of things and getting frustrated when they weren’t working. But it was because I was trying to force myself into doing things that were in alignment with other business owners and not what felt energizing to me. Since then I frequently ask myself when making business decisions or really anything I do with my business if it is in alignment with my vision and purpose. I take the time to tap in and ask intuitively for a yes or no. This may sound super “woo woo” but its OKAY to create a business around what fuels you and not just doing things because it worked for someone else! You can create anything, there are infinite possibilities and an infinite amount of resources waiting for you!
