We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ali Mohamed a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ali, thank you so much for making time for us today. We can’t wait to dive into your story and the lessons you’ve learned along the way, but maybe we can start with something foundational to your success. How have you gone about developing your ability to communicate effectively?
I’m confident that most people don’t even know how to read without pointing their finger at each word. It’s a wild world we’re living in, some of you guys won’t even read more than a paragraph of this interview. My generation luckily still have our attention spans in tact. The best way I learned to communicate effectively is roasting. If you grew up roasting your friends, you know exactly what I’m talking about. You can’t mess up a single word or you will be next on the chopping block. Speaking clearly, effectively, and beautifully in a way that will put your friend on sewer slide watch is a power that many could not hope to achieve. That type of word play is exactly why my podcast with @chriscameraguy will be successful. Maybe not all the smack talk, but definitely the effective communication and humor that stems from it. Tune in to the Chris and Ali Show on YouTube.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I want the focus of this article to be about my podcast rather than the vfx work that I do. As many of you may already know, the richie the barber show has ended. With the end of the podcast, me and @chriscameraguy have started a new podcast (The Chris and Ali Show). Our topics will be different from our previous podcast (The Pod Pod Bros) and will focus on conspiracy theories mixed with relevant issues in the world. I think it is for the best to avoid red pill topics because there are too many annoying bastards chronically online that can’t take a joke and don’t drink coffee. Shout out Chishazed.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
There are 3 qualities that a podcast host must have if you are in the realm of comedy. For starters, you gotta be comfortable saying wild shit from time to time. Sometimes you might believe what you’re saying and other times you gotta be an exaggerated version of yourself for entertainment. Its all for fun. Second, if you stutter harder than Professor Quirrell from Harry Potter, get off the mic bro. Find GOD. Effective communication skills is a must. However, do not become something you are not just for the entertainment of some internet clowns. Lastly, you need to know how to edit. Don’t be a deadbeat mf that doesn’t know how to edit your own stuff. The best advice I have for anyone starting a YouTube page is to find your niche and post every single day if you have the time. You will be successful. Do I follow my own advice? Maybe, maybe not. Mind your own business.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Not everything has to be done in one day. Making a schedule and sticking to it is the best way to avoid burning out. Saving up all of your work for one weekend is a sure way to reduce motivation and productivity. Just beat your meat and get back to work. Stop playing games.
