Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alice Daniels. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alice, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from a combination of genuine excitement, curiosity, and necessity. When my partner suggested spontaneous road trips (often literally the day before!), I struggled to find and save ideas quickly enough to plan amazing experiences. I thought, ‘If only there was a place you could easily save everything interesting you’d love to do someday.’
Then came the moment that changed everything: our two-week Florida vacation. On an incredibly tight budget, we managed to hand-feed giant tarpon, swim with manatees and dolphins, snorkel vibrant reefs, collect shark teeth and sand dollars, taste authentic Indian cuisine, explore Key West, and even drive through the breathtaking Everglades—all for around $500 per couple. Friends and family were astonished and kept asking, ‘How did you do that?’
That’s when Road Trip Owl was born. At first, I didn’t realize similar sites existed—I just wanted to create something useful and fun. Even when I discovered other great sites like Atlas Obscura, I decided my journey was unique enough to continue. The setbacks—like technical issues and feeling overwhelmed by what I didn’t yet know—strengthened rather than discouraged me. I learned each skill one small step at a time, driven by the excitement of sharing incredible experiences with others.
Today, my resilience comes from knowing that every small step helps someone else create lasting memories, just like I did. That’s exactly what keeps me pushing forward on RoadTripOwl.com.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Road Trip Owl is a travel website designed to help busy people quickly find incredible places to explore and easily plan memorable trips, whether they prefer a leisurely vacation or an action-packed itinerary. We specialize in offering carefully created, ready-to-use itineraries filled with unique and affordable adventures.
What sets Road Trip Owl apart is that we prioritize experiences and value over everything else. We firmly believe you don’t need to spend a lot of money to make lasting memories. When we research and build our itineraries, we always start by looking for free or low-cost activities that genuinely bring joy and excitement. Our goal is simple: if there’s an amazing free experience available, why spend money elsewhere first?
What’s most exciting and rewarding for us is hearing back from travelers who’ve followed our itineraries and discovered they could pack an incredible amount of fun into a short amount of time—without breaking their budget. It’s genuinely thrilling to see people realizing just how accessible amazing adventures can be.
We’re also continually working to make planning your next trip even easier. Recently, we released an improved article format that includes more detailed information on each destination, local hidden gems, and planning tips that let you customize your adventure even further. Looking ahead, we’re excited to expand with even more thoughtfully crafted itineraries—helping travelers everywhere realize unforgettable trips are always within reach.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Curiosity:
Staying curious has kept my journey exciting, fresh, and full of new possibilities. Whether it’s discovering a hidden gem or learning how to improve my website, curiosity turns challenges into adventures. My advice: always keep asking questions, explore what genuinely excites you, and don’t be afraid to dive in—even when you’re not sure what you’re doing. You’ll learn so much faster that way.
2. Resourcefulness:
This is huge, especially if you’re building something independently. Early on, I learned that you don’t need endless resources—just resourcefulness. Finding smart, affordable solutions, choosing free activities that deliver the same joy as expensive ones, and figuring things out step-by-step has been critical. My advice: start by looking at what’s available to you right now, not what you think you lack. You’ll find creative solutions everywhere.
3. Genuine Passion (Doing it for the right reasons):
If your heart isn’t in what you’re doing, it’s hard to keep going when things get tough. My genuine passion for travel and creating unforgettable experiences for others is what keeps me resilient. My advice: before you jump into something, ask yourself why it truly matters to you. If your answer excites you every time, that’s the passion you’ll need to carry you through anything.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Without a doubt, my dad and entrepreneur Alex Hormozi have had the biggest impact on helping me overcome challenges and build the skills I needed to succeed. My dad’s unwavering support and belief in me gave me the confidence to take risks, try new things, and stay resilient when challenges appeared overwhelming. He taught me early on that the right mindset and persistence could overcome almost any obstacle.
On the other side, Alex Hormozi’s straightforward advice on building businesses and solving problems efficiently completely changed how I approach challenges. His practical insights taught me that success isn’t about never failing, but quickly learning from mistakes, taking action consistently, and focusing on doing things that truly matter.
Combining the emotional support and confidence from my dad with the strategic business mindset from Alex Hormozi created a powerful foundation for me to build Road Trip Owl. Their influence helped me realize that true success comes from staying grounded in your values, consistently moving forward, and never losing sight of your ultimate goals.
