Meet Alicia Becerra

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alicia Becerra. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alicia, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I come from a long line of tough women.
My great-grandmother, for example, was a woman of extraordinary strength who raised five children while successfully running a restaurant. Her resilience and ability to juggle multiple responsibilities has inspired me to face adversity with courage and perseverance.
Her legacy reminds me that it is possible to find strength and achieve great things even during tough times.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’ve enjoyed baking cakes and cookies with my mom ever since I was a young child. As I grew up, baking became my passion project. I eventually honed my skills on cookie-making, blending baking with art. With a deep-rooted love for my Mexican heritage, I spent years perfecting my techniques and designs to create authentic, edible art in cookie form.

I started my business 9 years ago by posting my cookies on social media. It has opened many opportunities and led to amazing collaborations and projects throughout the years.

I paused my cookie business this past year to focus on my daughter’s well-being (she has special needs). However, I’ve slowly returned and that same social media community, along with the strong women in my family, have given me the inspiration to persevere and let my creativity flow. I’m currently working on some amazing collaborations and can’t wait to share in 2025.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The freedom to create has been a cornerstone of my success, allowing me to approach challenges with innovation and a unique perspective. It has led me to my niche of making cookies inspired by my Mexican heritage.

Understanding my ancestry has provided a rich cultural foundation, shaping my identity and inspiring my cookie art.

Early experiences in painting class as a child and baking with my mom nurtured my creativity and eye for detail, skills that have proven invaluable in various projects I’ve been involved with such as Food Network’s Cake Wars and Dia de Los Muertos for Target.

These influences, experiences and projects have fostered a creative skill set, enabling me to pursue my passions for art and baking. My advice would be to look inward, we all have the keys to success. It’s in our blood, our ancestry.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

My husband, Richard, has been a key to my success. He’s my best friend and a great supporter of all my ideas and projects. He often helps me brainstorm and gives me encouragement, constructive feedback and the confidence to overcome self-doubt.
