Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alicia Castro. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Alicia , so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?
I have a 5-step process to call in my creativity and overcome writer’s block. It involves leveraging my 5 senses.
I’ll drink matcha or green tea, so my tastebuds know the second that almost grassy taste hits, it’s time to focus.
Scent is a potent tool to evoke thoughts, memories, and emotions. Lighting certain candles triggers my brain to turn on creative mode. Every time I inhale aroma my body remembers how easily I go into flow mode. I even invest in different scents based on the energy it offers.
I engage my sense of touch, by playing with the textures in my workspace. If I have a client whose brand, voice, or vibe is more luxurious, I’ll spend time on my pink velvet couch or find a cafe with a five-star atmosphere.
Sound is just as powerful. I put on noise-canceling headphones and let my writing playlist automagically transport me into flow mode. I like instrumentals only for this – classical, lo-fi, or bossa nova jazz.
Sight is key, too. Removing visual clutter keeps my mind clear and ready to execute. That means a clear desk with greenery (the green reminds me that ideas are always growing). Also working with minimal tabs and changing my scenery so I’m staring at a park or water in the background is helpful, too.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m Alicia Castro, your word-wielding warrior ®, and chief copywriter/founder of glorious copy co. ™, and I see in words: cash-generating, soul-shaking, woo-y words.
The kind that alchemizes your email list into a smoky hot cauldron bubbling over with recurring deposits.
The kind that makes your sales page ooze and drip in dollars and “get out of my head – I’m in!” potency for your dreamy course and membership students.
There’s nothing that makes my neurons jump rope in excitement more than making multiple 6-figure course creators and membership founders lean into their feminine and live a soft life while they launch.
Words have been my secret weapon (and way of connecting with people) ever since I could remember.
From getting into a prestigious acting school at the tender age of 14 to becoming the highest-grossing sales lady at work at 20, to ghostwriting for an industry-leading $100 million dollar revenue-generating copywriting agency and doubling e-commerce and YouTube revenue for Fortune 500 companies for the past 5 years

I blend psychology, a bit of woo and otherworldliness (mani-gen INFJs unite!l) steeped in research (thanks Virgo Moon and Taurus rising), an obsession with language (I taught myself Japanese at 12), and copywriting prowess together to find the “take my money now” words that sell your course and membership.
I help course creators double their open enrollment and retention rates through my exclusive application only VIP week, 7 DAYS OF GLORY, where I craft sounds-just-like you-but-better heart- and purse string-tugging launch emails or sales page copy in just 7 days.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Mentorship, Research, and Practice
Mentorship was one of the most impactful skills in my journey because it allowed me to skip a lot of the struggle when it came to building a successful copywriting business. Like many areas, copywriters are a dime a dozen, so it was imperative for me to zoom in on what makes me uniquely different. I invested in mentorship and training early on to learn both my craft and how to grow a done-for-you service-based business.
The second most impactful skill set was research. It was incredibly useful to me because it allowed me to find the right words to connect with folks. My job as a copywriter is not just to sell; it’s to make that sale by ensuring the people reading feel seen and heard.
They also need to believe that your offer is the bridge between what they’re going through at the moment and the thing they’ve been dreaming about.
I accomplish this by mirroring their language – using the same exact words they’re using. The only way to get that information is by researching and talking to your customers.
Lastly, copywriting is a skill.
If you want to become better at whatever you do, you have to do more of it. I’ve made very deliberate decisions to find ways to practice writing, reading, and analyzing copy every day.
For those starting their journey, my advice is to diligently practice, research, and seek mentorship even if it means having to invest your time or money. It will save you a lot of headaches and overwhelm.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
One of them is breaking whatever is overwhelming down into very small bite-sized pieces. For example, sometimes the idea of having to write 20 emails is incredibly overwhelming.
I don’t try to break it down by starting with one email; instead, I identify the main outcome I want: what’s the one thing I want people to do at the end of this entire sequence?
Then, I’ll get super granular – what’s the first thing I need to do in order to write these emails? Well, I probably need to know more about the offer. So I’ll research it.
I’ll have read the offer sales page 2-3x as my first step. First read, second highlight outcomes and pain points, three find themes, etc.
I also recommend delegation. If you get overwhelmed by tasks outside your strengths or because imposter syndrome crept in, delegation may be best suited for you. When I am overwhelmed and cannot get out of my head around something, I delegate it to someone who naturally functions and works that way.
For example, I see in words so it’s easy for me to write something but it is not as easy for me to create a social media graphic. Someone who thinks in visuals would get it done much quicker, more efficiently, and with more finesse than I ever could.
