We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alicia Gordon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alicia, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Discovering my purpose has been a continuous journey, and I find myself still navigating this path. As we undergo personal growth, our purpose also evolves. I firmly believe that my overarching life’s purpose is to embody a spirit of love, to radiate positivity in this turbulent world, and to extend unwavering support to my family and friends. The significance of understanding my purpose became palpable approximately three years ago, following the passing of my mother. This pivotal event prompted me to take a hiatus, relocate to a different state, and undertake a process of self-reinvention, including redefining my professional endeavors, in order to gain a profound insight into my purpose.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Who is Alicia, what is her passion? Fueled by her passion for events, particularly birthday parties and
various celebrations, Alicia discovered her knack for creative event planning in 2006
after successfully organizing her first event – a Spa Birthday party, an event ahead of
its time.
In 2016, she wholeheartedly committed to event planning, honing her
skills by organizing elaborate parties for friends and families to commemorate the milestones and special occasions in their lives. This journey affirmed her true calling to establish an event-planning business that
delivers unparalleled experiences.
Upon reflection, celebrating others has always been a central theme in her life. Equipped with a strong professional background, she is now positioned in the vibrant Central Las Vegas area, rebranded and poised
to make her mark.
Reflections of You Events and Decor is a female minority-owned business that specializes in creating unforgettable events. They understand the importance of creativity, attention to detail, and exceptional customer service. Their array of event planning services caters to various budgets, ensuring that each event stands out. Their goal for 2024 is to offer not only event planning services but also a venue in the Las Vegas area, providing a convenient one-stop solution for clients. This initiative aims to address the need for an event space in North Las Vegas, eliminating the need for residents to travel across town to host events.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My most impactful quality lies in my ability to attentively cater to the needs of my clients and truly understand their desires. Thriving in the event planning industry requires exceptional communication skills and a solid foundation in customer service. Recognizing that the customer is the focal point of our endeavors is of paramount importance. My advice to those entering this field is to be compassionate towards oneself, to take necessary breaks, and to acknowledge that awareness of one’s limitations comes with time. Engaging a mentor and seeking guidance from individuals established in the field one aspires to join are invaluable actions to undertake. It is essential to remember that significant achievements take time to materialize.

“Collaboration triumphs over competition – it’s my motto. You’ll achieve more and reach greater heights by partnering with like-minded individuals. I’m actively seeking collaboration with fellow professionals in the event industry, be it balloon artists, DJs, event planners, design artists, and chefs (catering). The event industry is expansive, and I’m enthusiastic about leveraging collaboration to elevate events to new levels of excellence.”
