Meet Alicia Manley

We were lucky to catch up with Alicia Manley recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Alicia , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I found my purpose from caring for others. My mother was a diabetic and so was my brother. I was taking care of both of them at the same time for a period of time. I always loved to cook, but I felt like she was tasking me to take it to the next level. Let me explain more. She was a diabetic and a diabetic diet has to monitor more closely what is eaten and how much. She, like most of us, ate how she wanted and not worry about the after effects. She was put on a strict diet and he main question when I prepared her meals would be ” Where’s the salt, where’s the fat, where’s the grease?” LOL I told her she couldn’t eat those things on a regular basis and that’s when it hit me. Why should her tastebud be compromised because of her diet restriction? Why can’t this diet taste good and be flavorful while being healthy? Then I went to work!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

By day I am a Lab Technician at a Nutrition company. When I’m not there, I am working on elevating my own brand, A’liciously Saucy Catering and Desserts. I do more that just catering and desserts. I do meal prep, private dinners, date nights, etc. I set up and vend at events when I’m requested. I am currently in the middle of planning for my large vendor event that I host on Small Business Saturday. I have between 40-50 other small business come set up a table and sell their products to gain exposure. This is the 4th year and it gets bigger every year.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Discipline. Anything you want to do in life, make a plan, create a schedule, and stick to it. If you need to make adjustments, that’s fine, just make sure get back on track. It’s perfectly ok to go at your pace, not at others pace, or a pace others think should go.

Creativity. Do things that will make you stand out from other, create a buzz, and capitalize on it.

Patience. Life does happen. Be ok with the fact that issues do occur and a monkey wrench can be thrown at any time. Don’t let it defeat you.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?

The only challenge that I’m facing is finding a consistent and permanent space to rent. Because like all businesses, I started at home, I usually do my cooking either at home or at the venue. I believe if I have my own space, I can do more business and focus more on my craft.
