We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alicia Mcgee. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alicia below.
Alicia , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I was born a twin. From birth, there has always been she and I. Growing up, we were joined at the hip! We did everything together. There came a time where I got tired of not feeling like my own person and having to dress a certain way, do a certain thing, and I began to find my own way. I wanted to stand out and not always be seen as “Felicia’s Twin”. I carried that attitude into my adulthood. I always wanted to be set apart. I began early by simply being my own person and not being ashamed to let my colors show regardless to what others thought. It has since been my staple! Because I will always have someone that looks like me and carries my face, I had to find a way to make myself shine and set apart so I wouldn’t be like anyone else.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities that have been impactful on my journey overall have been to serve with a smile, lead with honesty, and be to others what you desire others to be to you. I always prepare to arrive as my best self- polished, poised, with a smile and a willing hand. No one wants to see you appearing to be untouchable, angry, or snooty. Lead with love and kindness in anything you do. Lastly, just be your authentic self. Understanding that being authentically you can mean you wear many hats, but carry the same heart.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I find a quiet place to center myself. I verbally affirm myself and remind myself of who and whose I am! I do calming breathing exercises and say a silent prayer. I also have this thing where I steal energy! I am a hugger. I search the area around me for energy that is on the level I want to reach and I ask for a hug. I hug tight and as long as needed in order to fill my energy bucket with the things I need in that moment. My last piece of advice is just to remember your WHY! Remember what made you say yes in the beginning and the reason why you should keep going forward!
