Meet Alicia Perkins

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alicia Perkins. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alicia below.

Alicia, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
There was a time when confidence felt like a language I didn’t speak. It was hard to see past my self-doubt and believe in my abilities. As time passed, my understanding of confidence evolved. I used to view it as a trait you either had or didn’t, like being tall or short. But I began to realize that confidence wasn’t a fixed attribute, it was a skill to be developed, a muscle to be strengthened.

This shift in perspective was crucial. Seeing confidence as something within my control, something I could improve on, gave me a sense of empowerment. It was no longer this elusive, unattainable trait, but a journey of self-growth.

But the biggest factor that boosted my confidence was my relationship with God. This connection became my rock. It offered me a sense of stability and reassurance that I hadn’t felt before. Knowing that there was a greater plan for me, and that I was part of something bigger, that’s what truly made me believe in myself.

So yes, my confidence and self-esteem were hard-won, built step by step. But I wouldn’t change that journey for anything. It taught me the true value of self-belief.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
For over a decade, I navigated the corporate world, working in HR &talent management roles for Fortune 100 and 500 companies. That intense journey, rich with lessons, successes, and challenges, has led me to where I am today.

I’ve stepped out of the corporate sphere, but I’ve taken its valuable teachings with me. Now, my impact has evolved; I’ve become a guide, an ally for individuals navigating their professional journeys. I’ve dedicated my career to empowering people to create their own success, on their terms.

Instead of conforming to rigid corporate expectations, I now champion the idea of crafting one’s career in alignment with personal values, priorities, and dreams. It’s about taking back control, transitioning from being a passive participant to an active driver of your career and life.

Today, I coach professionals, helping them break free from conventional molds and set their own standards of success. I aid them in recognizing their worth, embracing their talents, and confidently paving their path forward. Witnessing these transformations is what makes my work valuable to me.

To further this mission, I’ve developed a group program called “The Best You.” This isn’t just about better job performance or increased income, though that’s part of it. It’s about tapping into the powerhouse professional each individual can be. It’s about confidently defining your next steps, elevating your income, and taking complete ownership of your career.

“The Best You” is a direct pathway to not only a successful career but a career that’s authentically yours. We’re not just talking about job titles and salaries here. This is about aligning your work with your values, your dreams, your unique vision of success.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities have been instrumental in shaping my path: resilience, self-awareness, and adaptability.

Resilience is like a compass in the challenging landscape of the professional world. It helps you navigate setbacks, disappointments, and unexpected turns. The best way to develop this quality is to view each challenge not as a setback but as a lesson. Every obstacle carries an opportunity for growth and learning. Remember, it’s not about how many times you fall, but how many times you get up and keep going.

Secondly, self-awareness is pivotal. Understanding your strengths, weaknesses, values, and aspirations allows you to align your career with your authentic self. It’s about deeply understanding your strengths, weaknesses, values, and aspirations, but it also involves acknowledging and addressing your blind spots.

Developing this quality means having the courage to take an honest look at yourself, even when the reflection isn’t as flattering as you’d like. It means seeking solutions, not sympathy, and being proactive in addressing areas for improvement. It’s about turning the mirror on yourself, not to judge or criticize, but to understand and improve. Don’t be afraid of this self-examination. It can be challenging, even uncomfortable, but it’s an integral part of personal and professional growth.

Lastly, adaptability. In an ever-evolving professional world, the ability to adapt is crucial. Stay curious, keep learning, and be open to change. Remember, the only constant in life is change. Embrace it, learn from it, and use it as a tool to navigate your career journey.

As you embark on your professional journey, remember that developing these qualities takes time and patience. Be kind to yourself, celebrate your victories, no matter how small, and trust in your journey. You have the potential to create an extraordinary career, one that is uniquely yours.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The book that has had a profound impact on my personal and professional development is the Bible. Beyond its religious significance, the Bible has offered me timeless wisdom and guidance that have proven invaluable in my journey.

One of the most powerful lessons I’ve gleaned from the Bible is the importance of faith and perseverance. The story of David and Goliath, for instance, has always resonated with me. The tale underscores the idea that no obstacle is too big when faced with courage and faith. And that God gives us the tools to overcome them. It’s a reminder that our perceived limitations, our ‘Goliaths’, can be overcome, no matter how daunting they may appear.

Another valuable nugget of wisdom is the concept of servant leadership, embodied by Jesus Christ. The idea of leading by serving others, of putting the needs of your team before your own, has greatly influenced my leadership style. It’s taught me that true leadership isn’t about power or control, but about empathy, humility, and service.

The Bible also emphasizes the power of love and forgiveness, which I believe is essential not only in personal relationships but also in the professional realm. Holding onto resentment or negative feelings often acts as a roadblock to progress. Forgiveness, on the other hand, paves the way for healing, growth, and forward movement.

The wisdom in the Bible has shaped my worldview and approach to life and work. It has served as a guiding light, helping me navigate challenges and stay true to my values.
