Meet Alicia Rozycki, Phd

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alicia Rozycki, Phd. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Alicia, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?

I practice self-care daily which is a major change for a work-driven, recovering perfectionist! Now on the other side of that grind, you could not convince me to return to my old way of life. In fact, the benefits have been so tremendous, I want to inspire other women to do the same. This is the focus of my online psychology practice.

Previously, I made work the focus of my days, leaving little time for rest, exercise, social connections, and tapping into creative interests. Now my schedule is flipped to where self-care has become the priority and work is accomplished at a more reasonable pace. In this past year, I made increased exercise frequency and duration a top priority. It’s no longer an extra–it’s a must. Now I feel incomplete without it. Every morning the dogs get a walk and then I take a 10K bike ride. Strength training happens three times per week. On Sunday mornings I practice yoga with other ladies in my neighborhood; I invite them to my in-home yoga space, candles are lit, and Yoga with Adrienne guides us in a simple practice. The more I have ramped up emphasis on taking care of my physical body, the more I see the benefits to my mood and mental focus. Walks, bike rides, and yoga are great ways to clear my head, recenter, and release any frustrations.

It’s important to note I gradually built up these behaviors. I started with daily dog walks. From there, I found a great strength training class that really took the intimidation out of weights; I started out 1-2 times per week, to 2 times per week, and after 6 months, decided to bump up to 3 times per week. The trick has been starting slow, building, and maintaining commitment. With this, I’ve had increased energy which led to greater liveliness for socializing and energy to engage in other hobbies I love like painting and reading.

What amazes me is with all the time that is devoted to the fun parts of life, I’m still productive and achieving my professional goals like maintaining client appointments, furthering my psychological training, and managing the behind-the-scenes tasks that come with being a business owner. This is the success that comes with a balanced life, and this is why I wish it for everyone.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m a licensed psychologist offering online therapy in Colorado, Florida, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. This practice caters to high-achieving professional women. Women who are the go-getters, juggling “all the things” are rock stars, but they can also benefit from support. There are times doing it all can get tiring, especially when you’re the go-to for the questions at work and needs at home. I offer a space where women can come for support, let down their guard, and be their authentic selves–even if that true self is a bit of a mess at times! I think the super women out there are sometimes secretly struggling, and I don’t want them to struggle when support is available.

On my website www.arose-etherapy.com I invite women located anywhere to sign-up for some great freebies– A Coping Guide for Stress and Life Changes — and a bonus– the Simplified Goal Tracker. These tools teach basic coping skills anyone can apply to regroup a bit. Plus in requesting these tools, they can join the email community for periodic updates and tips! For the women living in the states I serve, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, I also offer a FREE 15 minute consultation so we can talk and address questions before going ahead with scheduling an initial therapy appointment. The link to book the free consult is also on the AROSE eTherapy website (www.arose-eTherapy.com).

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I think having self-awareness, openness for change, and commitment are huge! Self-awareness is the willingness to look within and gently observe your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It’s crucial for growth in life but it can be hard for some people; it can be threatening. With the right support, it’s not so scary and it leads to self-discovery. I’ve had people in my life in various roles who supported me in that process and that really is the first step toward personal growth. From awareness, there has to be an openness for change; willingness comes into play here. The willingness to break cycles and take actions in a new direction is an act of bravery; the key to taking a chance on change is having good supports in place. With solid people around you cheerleading, the challenging journey of behavior change becomes bearable and rewarding. Lastly, it take commitment to stick to new behaviors and ways of being. Resisting urges to backslide and remaining committed to a new way of life is ultra important. Yet I think with rewarding transformational experiences, it’s easy to stick to the new way. The new way becomes enjoyable and reinforcing; it’s just so important to stick with a new process and give it a fair chance to make change in your life before giving up on it. For people who know they don’t feel great but don’t know what to do about it, I’d say, get a guide. That guide can be a psychologist, coach, mentor, or spiritual advisor. Just don’t go it alone.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

I love working with people who are hungry for change. They are tired of where they’re at, and they are ready to get to work. From there, we both have such a great experience on the journey because I can share various strategies and resources with them so they can move forward more quickly on their transformational journey.
