Meet Alina Hernandez

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alina Hernandez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alina below.

Alina, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

Honestly, my creativity keeps me alive! It’s a part of me. Sometimes, I just have an automatic reaction to a sound I hear because I recognize the musical quality it has. Then that little thing can turn into a melody or a rhythm, which sparks a whole new idea. Music is my passion! I like incorporating it into my daily routine. Even if I’m just mindlessly fiddling on the keyboard, I’m connecting with that part of my identity and exercising it like a muscle. Keeping that consistency, looking for inspiration in everyday life, that’s what allows my flow of self-expression through music to grow stronger. Being a creative is a lifestyle (whether you’re a musician, an author, an engineer, etc.)!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a 20yo multi-hyphenated music artist. I grew up singing in church and started working professionally when I was 15yrs old. My musical style is a blend of Jazz, RnB, and Soul. Whether I’m recording at Paramount Recording Studio, performing in LA, or in a rehearsal, I am a music lover living out her dream! One of the best parts of working in the music industry is the networking and collaborations that turn into reliable relationships. I’ve gotten to meet and work with crazy talented people like Sheila E., Stevie Wonder, Kori Withers (Bill Withers’ daughter), and Kamasi Washington. The connections I make become gifts that keep on giving!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

To anyone just starting in their artistic career or anyone with a creative passion, don’t be afraid to be a beginner! Don’t be afraid of not being the best or not knowing everything automatically. We all start from somewhere and have our own growth process. Consistency and a strong work ethic are key to developing yourself and your career. Just keep learning, keep trying, keep growing. Even after you’ve reached your goals, continue to be a student of your craft and reach for more.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

My parents are awesome! Their unlimited support and guidance has enabled me to accomplish so much throughout my journey. It’s like asking for my favorite song, I can’t just pick one. I appreciate every sacrifice they’ve made for me. From driving me to gigs, to enrolling me in a performing arts school (which I stayed in from 6th grade to high school graduation), I’m grateful for everything. They didn’t force me to be a musician, but they fully committed to making my dreams come true when I decided to pursue music as a career and lifestyle. They’ve truly blessed me!
