We recently connected with Alina Nazari and have shared our conversation below.
Alina, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
It has taken me years to finally have the confidence and self-esteem to speak in front of an audience, grow my business and pursue my goals. I’ve always had a fire in me. I knew I wanted to have a bigger career than what I had in the past, but the idea of seeing myself aligned with people I admire in my field seemed like a far reach. I would see others present and speak on stage and think, “I could never be like those people. I could never present like them or speak like them.” I’ve been conditioned to believe this about myself my whole life. I grew up in a home that was quick to dim my light anytime I wanted to shine, so self-doubt was second nature to me. The thing about the universe is that when you want something bad enough and keep working towards it, the universe will place certain people in your life to help guide you along the way. They will become your mentors, your friends, and shine a light on you when you only see darkness. I realized I didn’t want to go through life with regret and look back hoping I had more courage. I remind myself over and over again (I still have to do this) that no one starts off great, no one’s business starts off perfect. It is from that imperfection that we iterate, iterate and iterate to get our business where we want it to be. Growth never comes from your comfort zone, and as scary as it is, you have to put yourself out there and put that first step forward.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I created this program, Go Happy Belly, because I suffered from so many gut issues from early childhood into my adult life, without any solution. I had constipation, weight gain, eczema, sugar cravings, unexplained stomach pains and so many other issues. I was told I was anemic, had IBS and always had low iron despite eating plenty of red meat. I always felt there had to be a root cause. However, since colonoscopies, endoscopies and specialists couldn’t find anything, I just brushed off my symptoms and lived with them.
I lost my own mom to stomach cancer in 1997, when she was just 46 years old and I was 10. I watched her suffer for years and eventually succumb to this awful disease. If you have ever lost someone to a disease like cancer, you know how it tears you up to watch them slowly deteriorate and what a helpless feeling it is.
After I had a GI Map Stool test done in 2021, it was discovered that I had an overgrowth of H. Pylori. H. Pylori is an opportunistic bacteria that kills the good bacteria in your gut microbiome. It makes an enzyme called urease, which lowers stomach acid. This leads to symptoms like bloating, constipation, fatigue, food sensitivities and low iron. I require every single person who works with me to have a GI Map stool test done, because without knowing what’s going on exactly in your gut, we have no idea how to address it. This is why people take countless supplements and try so many diets but still don’t feel well.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
When you don’t believe in yourself, you have to find others who do. Sometimes, those people are not physical people in your life. They can be audio books you listen to, books you read, motivational podcasts, connecting with your religion or even asking the universe for guidance. When I face times where I don’t believe in myself and I feel the self-doubt creeping in, I borrow other people’s belief in me. I think of the people who are rooting for me, excited for me to succeed and happy to see me grow, and I use their belief in me to help propel me forward.
It’s important to remember that no one you aspire to be like has made it all on their own. Think of the people you admire most and use their best traits to help shape you into the person you want to be. Surround yourself, whether physically or just mentally, with only people who charge your energy and cut out those who drain you. This will impact you more than you realize. It’s a harsh reality every successful person has to face, but you will never grow if you have people in your life tying you down.
Starting a business and putting yourself out there is overwhelming and scary – it’s like diving into the unknown with so many things to figure out, not knowing if people will laugh at you, judge you, or if you’ll even succeed. But the truth is, everyone begins this way. So many people have started and stopped businesses until they found the one that worked for them. The key is to trust that you have what it takes and to continue taking small steps forward. You won’t have all the answers right away, and you’ll probably mess a few things up, but that’s okay. It’s all about learning, making mistakes, and growing from them. Think of it this way, if you never made a mistake how would you know to do it better next time? That’s why those first steps are so important. I’ve had so many different careers that didn’t feel right, but when I realized what I truly wanted to do, things clicked in place and it felt right. But I wouldn’t have gotten here if I didn’t keep putting myself out there and trying.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
When I knew I wanted to be a nutritionist but didn’t know where to start, the universe placed Ben Azadi in my life who became my mentor. Ben introduced me to books from Dr. Wayne Dyer and Bob Proctor. Anytime I felt low, insecure, unsure of my next steps, he would tell me, “Go listen to Wayne Dyer. Take a drive and listen to Bob Proctor. Listen to them every day until it fills your subconscious and you don’t have room for self-doubt anymore. Create a vision board, write on a goal card where you see yourself, and read that goal card out loud every single day.” I must tell you, when you first do things like write big goals down or put pictures on a vision board, they can seem like such a far reach. It takes time to finally believe that you’ll reach those goals, but you have to keep reminding yourself that you’re worthy of those goals, and you have to keep taking steps forward.
When I felt hesitant to build my website, program and record videos, Ben would tell me, “Alina, go look at my first videos I created and see how amateur they look. No one starts off polished and perfect, but you have to just do it. Don’t think, just record.” Don’t think, just do. It’s a motto I remind myself of everyday.
I’m lucky to be married to my incredible husband Steve, who always believes in me and helps push me forward when I want to just stay in my comfort zone. Having a life partner who believes in your life goals as much as you do is paramount. When I look at others more successful than I am, my husband will tell me “that’s exactly how I see you” and it means the world to me to have him believe in my success so much.
