We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alisha Banks a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alisha, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
After walking through years of health issues post-birth control, I experienced a pivotal moment in my life. I took what would be the last pharmaceutical drug I have taken in 10 years; I was caught somewhere between a spiritual awakening and complete depletion of the essential minerals in my body. Just when I thought my body was broken, I met God.
Taking the “road less traveled” and healing my body naturally led me to develop an overwhelming peace with how our bodies were designed; I no longer was at war with my symptoms or emotions but instead had the understanding that they were merely communications. This experience, though it could be labeled as traumatic, shifted my entire life. I have dedicated the last ten years to studying natural therapies and remedies and can now serve the women’s health community in healing and recovery.
This experience has helped me regain trust with God, myself and with others even though it’s taken much time. It’s given me the gift of healing, encouragement and determination that I also can share with my now clients. It’s almost as if my purpose found me.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Against the diagnoses and the odds, I am now actually a mother of two beautiful healthy little girls, ages 3 & 4. In between staying present as a mom and tending my home, I run a private healthcare practice to support women through fertility, pregnancy and postpartum healing. In 2021, I launched my practice and in 2023, my official brand, From Dust was born. From Dust came from a place of even deeper healing I received from the Lord after finding out many of my chronic health symptoms were linked to mold illness.
As a mother who also gave birth during the global pandemic, I know how paralyzing fear can be when you let it in. Often times this is an unspoken fear that starts as health anxiety and I have experienced seasons of it myself but you can overcome it. Helping women face their fears whether it be symptom, food, relational or financial related is one of the best parts of what I do as a practitioner and health coach. Being a part of someone else’s transition and turning point in life where they regain trust in their God- given intuition is such a beautiful gift.
From Dust has recently expanded to help other Christ-centered health practitioners launch their wellness practices, creating this like-minded community has been soul fulfilling. We have women who are focusing on: Celiac & Children’s Health, Autoimmune Conditions, Gut health, Adrenal Fatigue, Metabolic Dysfunction, Fertility and so much more. Knowing that all these years of studying holistic and biblical healing is now wisdom that can be passed down and integrated into other practitioners business as they touch other lives is a very special opportunity that I don’t take lightly.
If you are not feeling heard with your current healthcare provider, please reach out! If I can’t help you, I will be sure to connect you with someone who can.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Have a heart of thanksgiving has been the most impactful on my journey, even through the trails. My continual faith walk has kept me going in each and every season.
The second skillset that stands out to me is leadership. I have always been put in situations to lead, even when I felt ill-equipped. There is something so powerful about someone who knows true leadership is really servanthood.
Lastly, people tend to describe me as calm, though I can tell you I don’t always feel that way! I think of myself as super serious but I think more appropriately, I am always discerning, which is indeed a good thing. Cultivating this gift has allowed me to slow down, listen better and make decisions that I am most confident in.
My best advice is stop focusing on all your perceived negative traits, be thankful for what you have, find ways to serve others well each day and understand in most, if not all cases. there is no rush; you can probably sleep on that major decision. Peace and comfort are similar yet different, discomfort at many times is needed to grow. Seek peace and move forward trusting you have been given special gifts towards your purpose and it’s okay if they don’t look like the person next to you.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
For the lest decade I have studied the Bible as my main source of wisdom. Many times in my healing journey I have chosen the word over medical science, and it has served me well. I learned recently since working with so many women there tend to be two “roots” surrounding ones faith: the religious root and the new age root. I see how God has used my work to pull both of me.
Some of my favorite life scriptures:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 (this one was given to me at birth from my parents)
The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley,I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Psalms 23
There is something so comforting about the Book of Psalms especially for those who embark on a conscious healing journey.
