Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alisha Patterson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alisha, so great to have you with us today. There are so many topics we want to ask you about, but perhaps the one we can start with is burnout. How have you overcome or avoided burnout?
I believe burnout mostly happens when outside pressure invades your inner world. Well, that’s how it happened for me. Because let’s think about it… when you’re burnt out, what’s going through your mind? It sounds like, “I can’t do this anymore. I’m so tired. I need a break. Is this really my purpose? Is this worth it? Maybe I should shift gears.” Those are phrases said when you’re working for something that may still be beneficial in its own way, but doesn’t feed you. When you let people on the outside set your goals, or misread your own measure of success, that’s when burnout happens.
So I learned to avoid that by only investing energy into what feeds me. If it’s not in my purpose, it’s not deserving of my time. I follow my own desires and make my own rules. I make sure everything I choose to participate in is fun, joyful, and speaks to my heart. So my work never feels like “work”, it feels like living.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a content creator and influencer who mostly creates home decor content. I enjoy decorating my space to make it feel like my own personal retreat and express who I am. It makes me really happy to see how my creativity inspires others to make their house a home too. I feel that your space should inspire you. You should be excited to come home after a long day. Your guests can walk in and instantly get a feel for who you are. Having this mindset also helps in other areas of life—picking out clothes, adopting new hobbies, etc. It all encourages you to find yourself and create your own world.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Art is my thing so I’d say creativity, music, and history. Creativity comes from within. It’s natural and we all have our own unique version of it. Music communicates and brings harmony. History teaches and inspires. My advice would be to make a physical, tangible list of what you like about yourself. Then, another list for what you admire in the world—not what other people say is “cool”, but what do YOU really think is cool? Study it. Practice it. Read about it. Find a podcast or YouTube video on it. Dive into what you like. Embrace individuality.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
FAITH! If I could answer this a million times, it’s definitely faith. I learned when you believe in yourself, you can’t be half in and half out. You can’t believe in yourself backup plan more than your original plan. Actually, you can’t have a backup plan at all. You have to pick a side and stay there. Even when tempted to act out of fear—to do what’s safe or more predictable, I chose faith. I stood in the face of fear and laughed (well, I cried a little bit first haha). And I don’t regret a thing.
