Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alison Altrui. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alison , thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
I simply keep on moving. Not everyone understands boudoir. Boudoir is not for everyone. But I know so many who love it, understand it and support it. They are who keeps me going. I enjoy being around people and clients who appreciate the art of intimate portraits and the magic of empowerment. The energy this brings makes it easy to overcome the hate and negativity that is constantly thrown towards boudoir from everywhere.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I focus on intimate portraits through boudoir photography. I love getting to know each client who comes in on a personal level and enjoy watching them quickly open up and feel comfortable. The best part is after when they see their images and go “wow, that’s me!”
Special events: I will be having a grand opening for my new studio located in Medina, Ohio from 10-1pm on Saturday November 2nd. We also have some in person events coming up like a gift exchange, booty painting day and a first-ever reMARKable event. You can join my Facebook group to be the first to learn more about these.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three of the most impactful things on this journey is communication, privacy and support.
They are ALL important to ensure your clients feel safe, loved and can let down their walls. Boudoir is intimate. The images you take are art but they are also precious and private. Sometimes clients need extra support working through things going on in life or just general support to feel comfortable during their session. You absolutely must be there for them.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Society and social media. It’s insanely frustrating scrolling past ads for lingerie and such for big name brands like Victoria’s Secret meanwhile I can’t get an ad approved if the model is looking at the camera the “wrong” way.
What am I doing to overcome it? Using other ways to market. Finding loopholes. Using my clients who love me to spread the word for me!
