We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alison Thomas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alison , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my father. He is one of my biggest role models, as far as hard-working and disciplined individuals go. He always has high expectations of himself, and that is what led him to his success working in title insurance. He has since retired, but I strive to reach for the same goals as he did, and I work to have high expectations of myself daily.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Alison, and I run a social media page on Instagram, known as @theidahoanfoodie. My content varies; I primarily focus on local restaurants, but have been known to also feature some home cooking and restaurants out of town occasionally. I have always enjoyed dining out, so there is nothing more exciting to me than to feature a brand new hot restaurant in town, whether it is local or in another city. I am always up to try a place that has been around for some time that I haven’t tried yet. I love to take pictures of food; not only do I find it appealing to myself (And I hope my followers also enjoy these pictures!), but more often than not, I find many dishes to be a work of art. Even though we have already passed the first two months of 2024, I hope to take @theidahoanfoodie up a couple of steps. This includes more photos, more detailed posts, and potentially even sharing some recipes.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
It certainly helps that I am on social media more than I should be! But as far as quality and areas of knowledge go, I would have to go with determination, optimism and my amateur talent for photography. To the people out there who have the same ambitions as I do: Go for it! Don’t sit and wait for something miraculous to happen. You have to work hard for it- it’s not going to just come to you. Develop any ideas that are fresh in your mind. Be sure to set realistic expectations for yourself, too. You will not get 1,000k followers overnight; persistence is key.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
Simply put: Being loving parents and always providing endless support, in good times and bad. My mom passed away in 2021, but when she was still alive, but she was nothing but supportive, and always wanted what was best for me in life. I miss her daily. My dad still continues to be there for me, even though we are living different lives.
