We recently connected with Alison Truelock and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alison , thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
I have always been a “glass half full” person. In every situation, I seek to find the good. Keeping an attitude of optimism allows me to take risks and explore challenges creatively, knowing I will do my best come up with a solution or a plan to make things work. It’s knowing that, although I can’t necessarily change the circumstances, I am able to change my attitude towards them. Even when things go wrong, I try to find the silver lining and the lesson. I am grateful for mentors and colleagues that have demonstrated this in their own lives.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a residential interior designer, and I love helping busy professionals and families create homes that are both beautiful and functional. Our environment plays such an important role in how we feel and live. I want to create spaces where my clients can relax after a long day, enjoy time with neighbors and friends, or host holiday gatherings. We specialize in full-service design and remodels, taking care of all the details so our clients can enjoy the process.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Faith, determination, and passion have been the driving forces behind my journey as an interior designer and business owner. Starting my own design firm required a strong belief and vision for what I could create. My faith has been my anchor, giving me the confidence to trust that God has a plan, embrace the daily challenges, and keep going when problems arise.
Determination has been equally important. Building a business from the ground up takes grit and resilience, especially in the design field where every project brings unique challenges. There is always something unexpected on every job and it’s impossible to anticipate all of the detours. Staying focused on my goals and accepting the lessons learned from each experience, have allowed me to grow.
Passion is at the center of it all. I genuinely love what I do—creating spaces that transform how people live. That excitement and drive push me to go above and beyond for my clients, constantly learning and striving to approach each project with energy and creativity. Together, faith, determination, and passion have shaped not just my business, but the joy and fulfillment I find in doing what I love.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal clients are busy families and professionals who value good design and good service. They’re open to collaboration and want to be informed and involved without the stress of managing it all. The clients that value my expertise, creativity, and attention to detail, and like to have a little fun along the way are the best fit.
What sets them apart is their understanding of how much their environment impacts their daily lives. They’re ready to invest in a home that brings them happiness—a space that feels inviting, where they can relax after a long day, connect with loved ones, and make lasting memories. It’s always rewarding to help clients create a home that feels like a soft place to land.
