Meet Alissa Montez

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alissa Montez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alissa, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I’ve always known I was creative, but I never really fit into the traditional idea of what being creative looks like. I don’t play an instrument, paint, or draw, but I’ve always felt that creativity within me. It wasn’t until I found content creation that I felt an instant pull, like this was where I was supposed to be. As I explored creating content, I experimented with different niches, trying to find my little corner of the internet.

Throughout my life, I’ve always been the go-to friend for relationship, dating, and self-love advice. I realized that these were the conversations I loved having the most. So, when I started creating content that was focused on that, it felt like I had found my true purpose — inspiring and empowering women to date themselves and fully embrace self-love. I wanted to create a space on my platforms that felt safe and where women could come for healthy, supportive advice and leave feeling empowered, uplifted, and inspired to pour into themselves.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am Alissa Montez, a lifestyle content creator based in Seattle with over 160k+ followers, and I’m all about promoting self-love and self-care. I’m passionate about empowering and inspiring women to embrace who they are and feel confident in their journey. Recently, I’ve expanded beyond content creation and started hosting events that encourage real-life connections.

One of the events I’m really excited about—and has already been a huge hit—is Cuffed Up, a speed dating event where women and men can meet face-to-face and form genuine connections. Coming up on October 10th, I’m hosting my first women-only event called Girl Therapy. It’s a safe, fun space for women in Seattle to connect with like-minded individuals. I wanted to create something that helps women in the city find friends and build meaningful relationships.

I’m also working on a course that covers the basics of content creation, perfect for anyone just starting out. Alongside that, I’m developing an e-book to help women feel confident and empowered when going on solo dates. Ultimately, my goal is to continue building a community that inspires women to embrace self-love, step into their power, and connect with each other in meaningful ways.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

My journey as a business owner, entrepreneur, and content creator has been similar to many others. One day, I just started—and since then, I’ve been learning and figuring things out as I go. Along the way, there are a few lessons I wish I had learned sooner.

First and foremost, I realized the importance of community. As content creators, we’re nothing without our audience. Our followers are the reason we show up every day. Once I shifted my focus to truly understanding, interacting with, and catering to my audience, I started to see a real community form—a community of strong women who are inspired to grow and be better.

Another key lesson I learned is the power of originality. It’s easy to see what others are doing and want to replicate their success, but there’s so much more value in letting your own creativity take over.. When I started creating original, signature series and content that truly reflected my voice and vision, I saw a noticeable boost in engagement. Authenticity is what draws people in and keeps them coming back.

Lastly, time management has been a crucial lesson in my journey. When you work for yourself, it’s so easy to let tasks slip or fall behind, especially without the structure of a traditional workplace. It took me some time to fully transition from a highly structured environment to being my own boss.

Time management and self-discipline are things I have to work at consistently. I’ve learned that success as an entrepreneur requires a lot of planning, prioritizing, and staying focused. Finding a balance between flexibility and accountability has been key.

It’s been a rewarding journey of growth, and these three lessons, building community, staying true to your originality, and time management are things I wish I had embraced earlier. But every step has been a learning experience, and I’m grateful for the path I’m on.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

Becoming a content creator kind of just happened for me, it wasn’t something I planned. I’ve been figuring things out as I go, constantly working toward a goal that never ends.. There have been so many late nights spent coming up with creative ideas and editing, trying to make everything come together

The people who’ve helped me the most through this journey are my friends and family. I rely on them a lot for support, advice, brainstorming ideas, and just sharing the little wins along the way. They’ve always been there for me, cheering me on, and I honestly wouldn’t be where I am without them. Their support means the world to me, and I’m grateful to have them by my side.
