Meet Alix Anopol

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alix Anopol. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Alix, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
I practice yoga and have recently gotten into nervous system regulation, which sounds a lot more intense than it is. Taking moments to be mindful about our stressors and reset throughout the day with breathwork, stretching, meditation, and funky little tricks like vestibular eye work has a major impact on how we show up in the world. Talk therapy is also great, and I am a big advocate for people having an outlet like that to help us get unstuck when we inevitably have those periods, and to work on self-development when we are in our flow. These things have helped me grow from being an employee to being self-employed and trusting the process to welcome in more growth!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m Alix Anopol, the founder of Alix Anopol Design, an interior design studio based in Austin, TX. My passion for design has roots in my upbringing, where I was inspired by my late father’s custom furniture showroom in NYC. This legacy drives me to create spaces that are not just visually appealing but also deeply personal and meaningful. Splitting my life between NYC and Texas, I have a deep appreciation for historic and modern architecture, and I believe that no matter what type of home you live in, it should be full of warmth and provide a safe space for you to unwind and be who you are at your core.

I specialize in high-end residential projects, blending design styles to create an eclectic modern aesthetic with functional living. I take pride in my ability to understand each client’s unique needs and translate them into a cohesive design vision. I see my role as a guide in my clients’ design journey, helping them navigate choices that enhance their lives. By engaging closely with my clients, I ensure that their preferences and lifestyles are at the forefront of every decision.

Each project is a new adventure, and I’m thrilled to continue creating spaces that truly resonate with those who inhabit them. I’m particularly excited about the opportunity to work on investment properties, where I can design unique moments for future owners. It feels like I’m putting together a present for an unknown recipient, which keeps my creative juices flowing.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities that have been most impactful are adaptability, empathy, and a deep understanding of design fundamentals.

The design industry is constantly evolving, and being able to pivot in response to new trends, client needs, and unexpected challenges has been crucial. I recommend early-career professionals embrace change and remain open to learning. Take every opportunity to explore new design styles, tools, and technologies. This adaptability will not only enhance your skills but also make you a more versatile designer.

Understanding my clients’ needs and emotions has been essential in creating spaces that truly resonate with them. I advise aspiring designers to practice asking both vague and detailed questions, and really engage with clients to understand their visions and feelings. This will help build trust and create more meaningful designs.

A strong foundation in design principles—such as color theory, spatial awareness, technical knowledge, and material selection—has been vital in my journey. I encourage those starting out to invest time in studying these basics, whether through formal education or self-directed learning. Attend workshops, take online courses, or simply explore design literature through books and magazines. This knowledge will empower you to make informed decisions and enhance your creative output.

For anyone early in their journey, my advice is to be patient and persistent. Growth takes time, and every experience—whether positive or challenging—is a valuable lesson that contributes to your development as a designer. Stay curious, seek mentorship, and never stop exploring your passion for design.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is someone who embodies a passion for entertaining and values creating unique experiences in their home. They love to host gatherings where friends and family can connect, and they appreciate the importance of crafting spaces that foster those interactions.

I thrive when working with clients who desire bold moments in smaller areas of their home, allowing me to unleash my creativity and design striking focal points. They understand that every space can tell a story, and they want their home to reflect their personality and interests.

Additionally, my ideal client values heirloom-quality items that serve as investment pieces, even if it’s just one carefully selected piece in their home. They might dream of creating a cozy area for listening to vinyl or engaging in activities that bring people together. This appreciation for quality over quantity adds depth and character to their space, making it truly special.

Ultimately, I love working with clients who are eager to create a home that goes beyond the ordinary, one that celebrates individuality and invites memorable moments with loved ones.
