We recently connected with Allegra DiNardo and have shared our conversation below.
Allegra, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I think developing confidence and self-esteem has taken me years. I personally think you as an individual are always growing with confidence through every obstacle life has thrown at me. I have always been an extravert so self-esteem and confidence has always come a little easier for me to handle. I work in a predominately male industry and that has forced me to not only have thick skin but strong skin. I grew up working in kitchens surrounded by strong ego willed chefs that forced me to have confidence in my product and dish or I would be fired. It allowed me to grow into a strong willed female who can now walk into a room full of men and feel confident I too belong to be in the room.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Allegra DiNardo and I reside in Los Angeles, CA. I moved to California on a whim when I was 25 with the idea of finding a job in the world of wine. I fell in love with wine while working in restaurants. Watching how a bottle of wine connected individuals while enjoying a meal really drew me in. I was raised in the south and grew up with a family who always surrounded themselves with a home cooked meal and where dining around the table every night was a must. My mother cooked every night. It is one of the many reasons I enjoy cooking and entertaining along with my passion for wine.Professionally I am in the world of wine. I sell wine all over Los Angeles as well as Nationally and Internationally. I feel you are always learning as an individual and if you ever stop having that attitude you career will also be stalled.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities or skills that I think were most impactful on my journey was learning how to manage others, reinforcing positivity, and learning how to handle things only within your control. Advice I have for folks who are early in their journey is to have lots of patience and only control what you can. If you try to control things out of your operation it will consume you and lead to non productive work.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed I try to take a deep breathe and take a break from what is overwhelming me. Whether it be personal or business related both will cause your work ethic to suffer if you try to power through and not address the actual problem at hand. So when I feel that way I shut my computer or whatever I am working on and try to reset myself. Usually that entails going for a walk, doing a work out and then coming back to the problem/task at hand.
