Meet Allen Thompson

We recently connected with Allen Thompson and have shared our conversation below.

Allen, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
Well, interestingly, I can’t say I’ve encountered haters in my life. If they do exist, I’ve learned to block out their negativity. If they don’t wish for my success, they don’t hold much significance in my journey. My primary challenge, however, lies with the nay-sayers. It’s not the usual suspects who wish for my downfall, but those who care about me deeply and fear my failure.

This presents a unique challenge because the very people who should be cheering for my success are often more concerned about my safety and well-being. They don’t grasp that entrepreneurship isn’t about playing it safe. It’s about embracing hard work and taking calculated risks for potentially immense rewards.

To counteract the well-intentioned but limiting influence of my fan club, I’ve developed a three-pronged strategy. Firstly, I surround myself with positive, influential individuals who inspire and challenge me. Jim Rohn’s wisdom, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with,” holds true for me. It requires constant vigilance to ensure I’m in the right company. I understand that it’s not always convenient or comfortable to seek out these individuals. It might even demand vulnerability to explain why I want to spend more time with them. But the effort is worth it.

Moreover, like anyone else, I only have seven days a week. Hanging out with new, inspiring people doesn’t magically add extra days to the calendar. This transition can sometimes lead to uncomfortable conversations with old friends, who may express feelings of being left behind or jealousy. The choice of who to associate with is a continuous, conscious decision.

Secondly, I make a commitment to read something inspirational every day. Last year, I set a goal to read 50 books, and I’m proud to say I surpassed it with 54. It doesn’t matter if it’s an audiobook or a physical book; what counts is the wisdom I extract from each author. I devote anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half each day to this habit. Sometimes, it means waking up before everyone else to safeguard my reading time amidst a busy schedule.

Lastly, I recognize that I need accountability due to my innate inclination toward laziness. So, I’ve enlisted professional help. I began working with a business coach about two years ago, but during a recent coaching session, I realized I required more than just professional coaching. I needed assistance at the mental and emotional level. Therefore, in addition to my professional coach, I hired a personal life coach who specializes in hypnotherapy. This decision allowed me to shed toxic and unproductive thoughts, ultimately helping me focus on my goals and disregard the well-intentioned advice to “play it safe.”

In conclusion, my nay-sayers are those who love me the most, making it a challenging situation. Persisting through this requires consistent, dedicated action. I don’t want to let go of these loved ones, so I persist not in spite of them but despite their concerns. I’m well aware of the path I’m on and the rewards it holds, but the fog of doubt can be thick. Surrounding myself with positive influences is the key to success, a strategy that can benefit anyone with a dream.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m Allen, and with over ten years of experience in the real estate industry, I’ve honed a unique ability to draw from my personal experiences and values to offer my customers professional, personal, loyal, and dedicated service. Before embarking on my real estate journey, I spent 15 years in the retail industry, developing a strong foundation in customer service management. This prior career has allowed me to take the real estate experience to new heights.

I’ve always had that warm, hometown hospitality feel ingrained in me, and it’s something I carry with me today. My goal is to bring that same sense of welcoming hospitality to my community in Central Florida. I believe it’s essential to help people make informed decisions about their future.

In my decade-long journey within the real estate industry, I’ve worked hard to achieve multiple designations. I’m proud to say that in 2020, I was honored with the title of Humanitarian of the Year. I’m a firm believer in the power of knowledge, and I’m an open book for anyone looking to buy, sell, or invest in real estate. I’m dedicated to turning your real estate aspirations into a reality.

Beyond my work, I’m also deeply committed to serving my church every Sunday. I’ve devoted a significant amount of my time to volunteering with organizations like Habitat for Humanity and Toys for Tots. I firmly stand by the belief that every child deserves a Christmas, and every family should have a place to call home.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
“Reflecting on my journey, I believe three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge have been exceptionally impactful.

First, get up. Getting up and taking that first step is the most critical thing you can do. You can’t begin anything, not even your day, until you get up and start. Inevitably, there will be moments when you stumble, face challenges, or fall down. When that happens, it’s essential to get up with purpose. The way you start your day often sets the tone for how it will unfold. So, get up with determination and face each day with resilience.

Second, persistence is key. Throughout your journey, you’ll encounter obstacles, climb hills, and even tackle mountains. There will be times when unexpected detours take you far from your intended path, making it seem as though reaching your destination is impossible. But it’s vital to keep going, no matter the challenges you face. The only way to ensure you reach your goals is to persevere and maintain your momentum.

Lastly, love. Begin by loving yourself, then extend that love to your neighbors and even your enemies. Love is a magnetic force that has the power to attract positivity and support. When you love with sincerity and depth, it becomes an irresistible force that draws people to your cause. With a network of love and support, you can achieve remarkable things.

No matter where you are in your journey, my advice is to remember these three principles. Get up, persist, and love. Get up each day with determination, maintain unwavering resilience in the face of challenges, and cultivate love in all aspects of your life. These qualities will serve as your foundation and guide as you pursue your goals and aspirations.”

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
At this moment, I’m grappling with a formidable challenge rooted in limiting beliefs. These beliefs have been influenced by my inclination to remain within my comfort zone, driven by a fear of failure. It’s a challenge that I’m actively working on addressing.
