Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alli Creagh. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Alli, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I developed my confidence teaching by being put and putting myself in uncomfortable situations. When I first was learning to teach pilates, I couldn’t speak infront of a group of people. Even though I could teach a pilates flow in my sleep, as soon as I would step infront of a group of people I would start to have an absolute meltdown. The first time I ever taught a group pilates class, I could barely get through without shaking like a leaf and I ended the class 15 minutes early and ran out of the room and said I’d never do it again. Well I can tell you that was far from what happened. The next day I got back in there and did it again and it got a little better. And here I am now 14 years later with my own pilates studio and you can put any amount of people infront of me and I can teach them without even thinking about it. The moral of my story is, don’t let fear hold you back. Face your fear head on and even if you fail miserably (like myself) do it again and again until you become so good, it becomes your greatest passion.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I started my Pilates and Personal Training studio, Alley Fitness, in the Las Vegas Arts District in 2019. I knew as soon as I started training people in NYC in 2010 that my goal was to become extremely knowledgeable in pilates and fitness to have a really special place of my own to bring my clients to. When I moved to Las Vegas in 2016 I had to restart but I was able to rebuild my clientele and make my vision of a studio come to life. When I opened the studio it became a hidden gem in the community. We got to mix a little Las Vegas art and history to the brand by refurbishing the neon letter A from the downtown Las Vegas Club Casino (it was removed from the outside of the casino when it closed and was imploded to put up Circa) and making it our sign and logo. Alley Fitness runs primarily as a private instruction studio which attracts the most amazing individuals who prefer to workout solo, to get an individualized work out completely tailored to their own goals. The dynamic blend of pilates and weight training continues to help many people attain their unique needs and goals.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Discipline. There is a famous quote by Warren Buffett where he says, “We do not have to be smarter than the rest, we have to be more disciplined than the rest.” I can tell you with all my experience the most successful people I’ve seen, show up for their clients day in and day out even when they don’t want to or don’t feel good. It’s so important to be reliable and accessible to a client if you want to build a reputable service.
2. Passion. In order to be disciplined the secret ingredient is being passionate about the product or service you are selling. If you love something so much, it’s going to give you the energy you need to succeed and help drive you through tough moments presented to you.
3. Become a master of your craft. Learn and educate yourself and then keep learning. Do continuing education, talk with other masters, there’s always a way to better yourself so you can provide a better service.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents have always been my biggest supporters and fans and I am forever grateful for them. When I decided to quit my job and go all in to pursue a career in fitness, they gave me the gift of my pilates education. They have continuously since then, given me all the support and encouragement to pursue my passion.
