Meet Allison Bray

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Allison Bray a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Allison, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Purpose didn’t arrive all at once. It revealed itself slowly, through the patterns I kept repeating. I was always writing. Always curating. Always inspired by the women who turned their lives into stories worth telling. When I realized I wasn’t just observing that world but was meant to create within it, everything aligned. About Magazine became the place where my creativity met intention. It became the platform to give women a voice, a vision and a space that reflects their depth.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m the founder and creative director of About Magazine, a publication built for the everyday woman who lives a full, modern life. Unlike many other magazines, our focus isn’t on celebrities or aspirational lifestyles that feel out of reach. We celebrate women who shop at real stores, juggle work, family, and personal passions, and want style, beauty, and culture that actually fits into their lives.

What excites me most is curating content that feels attainable but elevated. From wardrobe staples and beauty finds to lifestyle guides and curated experiences, we highlight the choices that make everyday life feel intentional, stylish, and inspiring. About Magazine is about smart, relatable, and chic moments, not unattainable perfection.

Right now, we’re focused on expanding seasonal guides, product features, and limited-edition collaborations that resonate with our readers’ real lives. We aim to offer experiences and inspiration that feel immediately usable, whether it’s a skincare launch, a holiday gift guide, or tips for balancing work, family, and personal style.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, three qualities have been most impactful in my journey: creativity, confidence, and a willingness to explore. Creativity allows me to see opportunities, curate stories, and build content that feels fresh and elevated. Confidence gives me the courage to take risks, make bold decisions, and trust my vision even when it feels uncertain. And being explorative — constantly seeking new ideas, experiences, and perspectives — keeps the work dynamic and ensures the brand continues to evolve.

For anyone early in their journey, I’d say lean into these qualities deliberately. Practice your creativity by experimenting and taking risks without fear of mistakes. Build confidence by making decisions and trusting your instincts, even in small ways. And stay explorative by trying new things, asking questions, and staying curious about the world. Over time, these traits compound into the foundation for work that is both meaningful and distinctive.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

Over the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been trusting my instincts and embracing bold decisions without overthinking. Running a publication like About Magazine requires constantly balancing creativity, strategy, and intuition. I’ve learned that some of the most impactful ideas come from following a strong instinct and moving forward decisively, even when the path isn’t fully mapped out. It’s been a lesson in confidence, speed, and trusting that clarity often comes through action.
