Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Allyson Spellman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Allyson, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I love being a TV personality but my calling is being an animal advocate. I am grateful for the platform that my TV work has provided to help animals on a large scale.
For as long as I can remember I have always had a connection with animals. I was that little girl constantly bringing stray animals home, helping the turtle cross the road quickly so it wouldn’t get hit or finding an injured bird
and immediately taking it to the vet.
My desire to help animals was more than just a sentimental feeling, it filled me with a sense of purpose.
Even as life got busy and my career in entertainment flourished, I never stopped doing what I could to
help an animal in need that was directly in my path. I didn’t believe or recognize at that
time I could make an impact as an animal advocate on a larger scale.
No matter how busy I became or how distracted I was with my career, the divine nudge within me
served as constant reminder to not forget my calling.
But as I waited for the “right time” to fully pursue my purpose, I realized there were those out there who did not have
the luxury of time. The only time these animals had was right now to be saved and not a
minute more.
Then it clicked for me, just like turning on a light switch, my purpose lighted up and it hasn’t been
dimmed ever since. Something was ignited in me and I knew there was no more sitting
on the sidelines watching others do the work.
I shifted from the mindset of “someone should do something about that” to realizing I am
that somebody.
I finally understood we all have a platform wherever we are today- our families,
friends, neighbors, community, networks, co-workers and social media following. We can
positively impact and influence anyone, anywhere and at any time in our life. Never
underestimate the power that passion can persuade.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
It’s pretty amazing when you decide to make a whole-hearted commitment to your purpose, the right people show up to support you. I have seen this countless times throughout my life.
I created an unscripted series about helping animal rescues in a very unique way. I am the host and producer on the show and I thought it was the perfect way to combine my experience in front of the camera with my passion of animal advocacy.
The series is currently in development with Little Studio Films in Los Angeles with Alexia Melocchi serving as the Executive Producer. When I met Alexia I knew she was the right person to spearhead the series, not only because of her prestigious portfolio in the entertainment industry but also her love of animals.
This series is definitely my dream come true! It is called “Rescue The Rescue” and I can’t wait to share it with everyone!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Listen to your intuition. We are always being guided by an internal compass guiding us to what is right for us. Many times we negate our intuition out of fear, uncertainty and the physical reality of our current situation. Instead listen to what feels right and what feels wrong to us. Although our current reality may not be where we want to be, our divine intuition is guiding us to stay on the best path for us. There is so much unfolding behind the scenes that if we just trust that it all happening now- even if we don’t see it yet- we will be lead to the best destination.
Commit to your purpose. There are common themes that keep coming up in your life. A gut instinct that you want to work with kids, help veterans, pursue artistic endeavors, write a book, etc. Those recurring themes keep happening for a reason. They are your purpose and there is always a way to incorporate those passions into your life.
NO simply means “Next Opportunity.” Don’t keep dwelling on a “no” or let that stop you from pursuing your purpose. It simply wasn’t the best match to help you get to where you need to be to make a difference with your talents. “No” can be a gift because it opens space to let the right opportunity come in.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
I really connect to all of Brené Brown’s books. However, in her Netflix documentary “The Call To
Courage” she said something that definitely struck a chord with me.
“Start every day by putting your feet on the floor and saying, ‘Today I will choose
courage over comfort. I can’t make any promises for tomorrow, but today I will choose to
be brave.'”
No matter what obstacles or difficulties we encounter in our life we
must constantly remember to shine our light boldly and unapologetically. You have to be brave to pursue your purpose and step out of the comfort zone. Learn to embrace courage and let go of safety to reach your highest potential and purpose. It
certainly may not be comfortable but it is so worth it!
