Meet Alma Torres

We recently connected with Alma Torres and have shared our conversation below.

Alma, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I continuously seek new inspiration from art, experience with new techniques & colors outside my comfort zone, consistently practice to build my portfolio. Also going live everyday doing makeup & video contents.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hi my name is Alma Torres, I’m a self taught & a Certified Makeup Artist. I’ve been doing makeup for 5 years & started doing makeup on clients/models for a year. It was around COVID that I started learning makeup on my own by watching makeup videos & lives then started going live on my own. I honestly didn’t know what I was doing til I practice and practice. I was getting a lot of compliments & motivation from family, friends & followers/ viewers. I love that I choose makeup as my passion and helps me a lot.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Clear communication with my clients, ability to make clients feel comfortable, listen to their needs & build trust for a positive experience. Deep understanding of fundamental skills like color theory, contouring, and how to apply makeup to different skin types and facial structure. My advice to anyone that have a small business to keep pushing til you get to the top, never doubt yourself & your business.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
The most helpful person that help me overcome the challenges I was going thru was my wife, always pushing me to keep on going even when I kept doubting myself and giving up easy.
