Meet Alvin Lee Sealy

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alvin Lee Sealy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alvin Lee, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

My confidence and self esteem is garnered from a place of recognizing the lack there of imposed within my upbringing. My parents worked a lot so they weren’t too present with regards to my athletic and scholastic activities, and most of my achievements weren’t reinforced with great praise; it’s my belief that I may have repressed it or converted it into what was required to be accepted by my friends and peers, I was ultimately forced to tap into my natural abilities & curiosity into how “things” worked to help mold my personality and skills.

Also, my sisters were pretty stylish and fashionable, and one of my sisters could have been characterized as a tomboy so I took a couple pages from her book, in combination with current trends throughout the years, and my own creativity, which resulted in me being recognized as a “good” dresser, and that definitely became a mechanism to enact my confidence. Deep down inside, I really cared what other people thought, so that translated into me being somewhat of a people-pleaser; other people’s happiness brought me joy and subsequently boosted my confidence.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I currently own and operate a courier service specializing in delivering plants, along with a couple other services handling plants, such as plant installations and rentals. I’m also in the process of creating my next business in ecommerce as an “add-on component” to the current operation. Clearly I have a great appreciation for plants, and so, I allow it to be a driving force, conceding to my creativity and business acumen to converge and inspire my ability to create new business ideas. I view nature as a form of organic art and so, I’m deciding to combine plants and actual art in an array of different forms and styles through a new website I’m creating. It’s a bit of a niche concept but I’m willing to give it a go; I tentatively seek to go live with it by the early summer, so stay tuned.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, I believe the three things that were most impactful in my journey were:

1. My relentless pursuit of self development; focusing on creating better and better versions of myself. Studying the ultra wealthy and powerful titans of industries, particularly their personal habits became a prime focus for me. The continuous mindset of growth within a successful person is a determining factor of true long term success.

2. Continuously working on my emotional intelligence; understanding that, how I choose to perceive and respond to people, situations and especially less than ideal circumstances, sets a tone for the outcome. I can either focus on the solution or the problem, and I tend to go with the solutions focus.

3. Disciplining myself on creating better spending habits and systems that will ensure that I am least likely to ever struggle financially again. The nuances in commerce and technology make it very easy to obtain what you want almost instantly. So as an example, when it comes to food, I focused on less spending when it came to buying food from restaurants, through a dedicated weekly commitment in prepping all my meals for the week, I’m able to save a lot of money on food, not to mention the ability to control the quality of food I’m putting in my body.

How would you describe your ideal client?

My ideal client is a small business or organization with systems and protocols in place to assist in mitigating risks; a couple other critical elements in an ideal client is clear communication, consistency, pattern recognition process improvement, and the ability to shift and maneuver changes and nuances within their market.
