Meet Alvin Odems Jr.

We were lucky to catch up with Alvin Odems Jr. recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alvin, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.

My generosity comes from my family and upbringing. My parents always taught me the importance of giving—not necessarily in a financial sense, but in ways that truly matter. I believe spreading love is the most powerful gift. It means being there for someone when they need you, offering a listening ear, giving advice when it’s wanted, or simply showing up for others.

And for me personally, I love making people’s day, and a few words of encouragement can do just that.

Early on in my life I realized how much power lies in staying positive and giving to others. Generosity has the ability to inspire change and make the world a much better place.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I work a day job, and I love it! But my passion—and what I strive to do every day—is to spread love.

What I’m doing isn’t new, but I truly believe it’s needed now more than ever. So many people are fighting battles, whether internally or externally, at work, at home, or elsewhere. Some are dealing with anxiety, depression, or struggles we might never see. So, what’s my goal?

My goal is for anyone who sees me, my brand, or visits my Instagram page to feel inspired, motivated, and empowered to face whatever challenges they’re dealing with. Life has its daily battles, and we all need someone or something to help us push through. I want to be that for as many people as I can.

This brand has been on my heart for a while now. What held me back was time, life, waiting for the perfect moment, the budget, and, honestly, getting in my own way.

The events will come, the merch will come, and so will the speaking engagements. For now, I want to focus on drawing people to my page, building traction, and simply being a beacon of light—for myself and for anyone who connects with what I’m doing.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three qualities that were—and still are—most impactful in my journey are kindness, authenticity, and being genuine. For me, it’s always been me vs. me. I’ve been my own biggest obstacle, scared to make moves, but I stayed true to myself and was always honest with people about what was going on.

A big part of that was allowing myself to be vulnerable. Letting people in isn’t always easy, but it’s so important. When you’re open about who you really are, it creates space for the right people to show up and support you on your journey. At the end of the day, people aren’t mind readers—you have to let them see you to truly connect.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

My biggest challenge right now is fighting the urge to chase perfection. I’ve spent so much time trying to make sure everything is just right—the timing, the photos, how I sound, and so on. I’ve cared too much about the little things for too long. But I’m learning that sometimes you just have to take the leap, no matter how uncomfortable it feels.

I remind myself daily that perfection doesn’t matter. What matters is showing up, because people want to hear from me, and I have a lot of great things to say and share.
