Meet Aly Sanders

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Aly Sanders. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Aly below.

Hi Aly, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
I feel like imposter syndrome is never something that I can ever really overcome. It’s a constant flow of up and downs! There are times when I don’t feel it at all, and there are times when it’s nearly debilitating. When I’m at a low point and am experiencing a lot of imposter syndrome, I try to take a huge step back. It’s really helpful for me to gain perspective. Especially in this age of social media, it’s very easy to get sucked into the comparison game. I try to remember that there is only one of me. That in itself makes the products and films that I create extremely unique. One of a kind. I deserve to be in this space just as much as the next person. There is room for everybody! Even me.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a filmmaker based out of New England! I specialize in documenting human connection – in whatever form that comes in! I specialize in weddings, but have recently become really passionate about heirloom and legacy films. I sit down with people’s parents and grandparents for a few hours and document their story. Where did they grow up? How did they meet? What was their childhood like? We talk about everything. I can then craft a film that lives on for generations. Their kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids can learn about their lives from their own mouth and their own voice. It’s magic. It’s priceless. Weddings will always have my heart, but there is something so special about being able to document the stories well beyond the wedding day.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
In the beginning of this journey, I feel like I really had to hold on to knowledge, creativity, and perseverance. It’s hard not to get lost in what everybody else around you in saying and doing. Stick to what you know, do what feels right for you, and keep pushing forward.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
One thing I’ve learned from being in this business is that networking is key to growth and happiness. It’s so important to connect with other people in the industry! I recently relocated to New England, and I’m eager to meet new people. I’d love to connect with other creatives and wedding vendors! Photographers, videographers, florists, planners, DJ’s, etc. If this is you, please connect with me! I cannot wait to meet you.
