Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alysha Walsh. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alysha , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
As a young college student starting a new career path, I often told myself, “It will be difficult, but it will be worth it.” I was raised by a loving mother and a hardworking father who instilled in me the value of a strong work ethic. My father would always say, “Always shake a hand standing up” before every job interview. This simple advice helped me network and shape who I am today. I owe much of my work ethic to him; he was always there to listen, guide, and support me through my career journey. Thanks to his influence and my mothers love , I am now a proud wife, mother, and a small business owner, capturing life’s moments.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Alysha. I’m a self-taught photographer, a mother to two energetic toddlers, and a wife. My passion for photography began in high school when I was the yearbook photographer. I’ve always enjoyed capturing exciting moments, but for me, photography is more than just taking pictures—it’s about preserving the moments that tell our stories.
Watching my mom document our family life through photography and scrapbooking, I came to appreciate the value of these preserved memories, especially after becoming a mother myself. Before discovering photography, I had planned on a career in law enforcement, driven by a desire to make a difference in people’s lives. Though law enforcement wasn’t my path, it led me to photography, where I continue to make a difference by telling stories through my camera lens.
Starting my photography business was nerve-wracking, as it is for any new entrepreneur. While the photography market can feel saturated, each photographer offers a unique perspective. I specialize in capturing candid, emotive moments that evoke a sense of presence and nostalgia. My favorite aspect of photography is portraying people’s genuine, timeless selves.
When I’m not behind the lens, I’m enjoying time with my two toddlers, Olivia and Nolan, and my husband, James. They are my greatest joys. I also cherish a hot cup of coffee on a crisp morning and slow, relaxing starts to the day. Additionally, I you can find me fundraising for brain cancer research through my brother’s nonprofit, The Chad Milliken Memorial Fund.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Drive
Drive has been a defining characteristic of mine since childhood. When I set my mind to something, I pursue it with determination and strive to excel. Achieving your goals requires this kind of drive. It’s essential to discover what motivates you and fuels your daily efforts. For me, the pursuit of being the best version of myself in every phase of life has always been a powerful motivator.
Authenticity
Authenticity goes beyond merely smiling and greeting people; it’s about presenting your true self. To build meaningful connections and succeed professionally, you need to be genuinely authentic. Throughout my career, I have remained true to myself and my values. If a job or opportunity didn’t align with who I am, I moved on, staying committed to the path that felt right for me.
Personal
Being personal involves more than just engaging in conversation; it’s about creating a connection. A personable individual is someone you’d enjoy having over for dinner. I developed these skills over many years working in the restaurant industry. What people truly seek are genuine interactions and a presence that shows you’re fully engaged in the conversation. I find this skill is most important in my current career path
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
My biggest area of growth in the past 12 months was taking the leap and starting my business. I was able to take a thought to a dream job where I get to work with so many beautiful people.
