Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alyssa Chavez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alyssa, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I grew up in poverty. My family had to do everything by hand whether it was hunting to survive, or building a car from the ground up! I grew and raised a lot of my food growing up and always made or repaired my own garments. I never saw either of my parent’s being lazy, so in turn I am a very productive person.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I had my daughter in late 2020 and became a stay-at-home-mom. Shortly after this life transition, I began crocheting more intricate work than I had ever before. After sharing my work online a few times, I was encouraged to turn my fashion into a business. In 2021, I founded Jade Alchemy, my eco-fashion brand! Everything is 100% handmade by me. I focus on all natural materials (cotton, wool, bamboo) as well as zero waste. My mission is to offer quality, affordable, stylish, slow-fashion items to everyone!!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
One of the most important qualities that has helped me throughout my journey is a continuous drive to “do better”. It’s always me against myself, there is not other competition. A very good area of knowledge to explore if you are on your small business journey, is entrepreneurship! I have always been able to connect with all different kinds of people and see how we are able to work together.
Another quality that has helped me is confidence. I approach every event and project like it is my best work, and that draws others to believe it IS the best!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always open to collaborating with new photographers, models, artists, and designers! If you are interested in collaborating with me, feel free to reach out through social media!
