We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alyssa Chavez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alyssa below.
Alyssa, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose by reconnecting with my roots and the traditions I was raised around. My Abuela was an immigrant who carried with her a wealth of knowledge about herbal remedies, healing, and the power of nature. Growing up in a small town near the border of Mexico, I watched her use herbs and teas to comfort, restore, and connect our family it was her way of caring for the people she loved. My parents both work in the medical field, and my younger sister followed that same path, so healing was always a part of our household. I admired their work deeply, but I eventually realized my calling was different still rooted in care and wellness, but through a more natural, cultural, and creative approach. That’s how Gaia’s Tea Garden came to life as a bridge between my Abuela’s wisdom and modern wellness. Every blend I create is inspired by the love, tradition, and connection she passed down, and it’s my way of continuing her legacy healing the body and nurturing the spirit, one cup at a time.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m the founder of Gaia’s Tea Garden, a handcrafted herbal tea brand inspired by my Abuela a woman who cared for a family of twelve and continues to inspire generations through her strength, love, and wisdom. She taught me the beauty of healing through herbs, culture, and connection, and that’s the foundation of everything I do. At Gaia’s Tea Garden, we handcraft everything ourselves from our one-of-a-kind tea blends you can’t find anywhere else, to every label design, package, and the overall themery and aesthetic of our brand. Each detail is created with intention and storytelling in mind, rooted in culture, tradition, and family. We use only the highest-quality herbs, blending each by hand to ensure every cup delivers comfort, authenticity, and care. But for us, it’s never just about selling a product or turning a profit it’s about the experience. We want people to feel that wave of nostalgia, like being back in their grandmother’s kitchen or surrounded by family during the most precious moments of their life. Every sip is meant to carry that warmth, familiarity, and love a reminder of home and heritage. We’re currently at Old Taylor High School in Taylor, Texas, and will soon be expanding to the Austin Zilker Park area. We also recently launched our online store at gaiasteagarden.com, where you can explore our signature blends, seasonal creations, and very soon our newest venture herbal tea gummies. Everything we create is designed to share a story, a feeling, and a legacy — one that began with my Abuela and continues to blossom through Gaia’s Tea Garden.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been creativity, resilience, and connection. Creativity has been at the heart of everything from developing new tea blends and designing our labels to shaping a brand that feels like an experience rather than just a business. My advice for others is to let your creativity evolve naturally. Don’t be afraid to mix your passions, your culture, and your personal story into your work that’s what makes it unique and meaningful. Resilience came from experience. Building something from the ground up isn’t easy, and there are moments where things don’t go as planned. But every challenge taught me patience and adaptability. For anyone just starting out remember that slow growth is still growth. Stay consistent, trust your process, and never lose sight of why you started. And lastly, connection with people, with purpose, and with community is what keeps everything meaningful. Gaia’s Tea Garden was never meant to be just a brand; it’s a reflection of family, culture, and love shared through every cup. All of these qualities were shaped by my Abuela and my family, who have always shown me what love, dedication, and hard work truly look like. My parents inspired my passion for healing through their work in the medical field, and my little sister has been one of my biggest inspirations of all. She’s always had a heart for helping others following in my parents’ footsteps and watching her grow into her own purpose reminds me so much of the compassion and strength that runs in our family. Even though we’ve chosen different paths, our values align hers in medicine, mine in holistic healing. She reminds me that there isn’t just one way to care for others or make a difference. That shared purpose between us fuels what I do every day and keeps me grounded in why I started Gaia’s Tea Garden: to continue a family legacy of care, love, and healing just expressed through nature, tradition, and community. Those lessons from my Abuela’s wisdom to my sister’s drive and my parents’ devotion became the roots of Gaia’s Tea Garden. My advice to anyone early in their journey is to look back at where you come from. Sometimes, the greatest inspiration for your future is already growing in your own family’s story.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is someone who values connection, culture, and intention someone who sees tea as more than just a drink, but as a way to slow down, heal, and reconnect. The people who are drawn to Gaia’s Tea Garden usually come because they’re looking for something real something handmade, heartfelt, and full of story. They appreciate craftsmanship and care from the unique tea blends you can’t find anywhere else, to the storytelling behind every label and the quality of the herbs we use. Many of them are people who love supporting small businesses rooted in authenticity, family, and tradition. But even more than that, my ideal client is someone who wants to feel included, seen, and at peace. Gaia’s Tea Garden is meant to be a safe space somewhere you can just be yourself with no judgment, whether you’re coming in to destress, have a heart-to-heart, or just take a breather from the world. It’s a place where people can share stories, exchange energy, and maybe even leave with a new perspective. I love when someone says they’ve never liked tea that it tastes “too earthy” or “like grass” because once they try one of our blends, they realize tea can be something completely different. It can be flavorful, refreshing, vibrant like drinking a memory. I want every sip to feel like comfort, warmth, and connection the same feeling you get sitting with your grandmother or surrounded by family. At the end of the day, Gaia’s Tea Garden isn’t just for tea lovers it’s for everyone. It’s for those who crave calm, community, and connection in an intentional, welcoming space.
