We were lucky to catch up with Alyssa Donato recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alyssa, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
Creativity is like a wellspring we can call upon to nourish our spirit, mind, and being. Creativity looks alive in very different ways depending on the season, chapter of my own story, month or year. What has helped tremendously is changing my environment when I am in a creative rut. Go see something new, get fresh eyes, talk with someone you wouldn’t converse with on a regular day. There is creative energy continuously available to us, sometimes we need to search and sometimes it flows through. Neither are good or bad, but rather a shift in perspective.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My brand is personal and yet a really fun reflection of things that I hold so dear to my heart. I developed my personal brand before the pandemic hit and have been focused on Astrogeography or Astrocartography as some know it. Astrogeography is the astrology of place. I love how this connects people all over the world with where to be, travel, live, explore, call upon, and so much more. There are so many layers to exploring our personal astrogeography and how we inhabit the land. The places we hold near to our hearts. I focus on 1:1 sessions and coaching offerings to guide others into deeper alignment with who they are meant to be here on planet earth.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
There were many things that were impactful about this process of self-discovery. The first is that I didn’t try and fit myself into a box that someone else constructed. I wanted my business to come from me, and my soul expression – not what a business coach tells you that you should build because it’s profitable. Be ok with taking really messy action. Rely on the people you already have in your network whether that is community, co-workers, friends, or family. And lastly, what your business is expressing and offering doesn’t have to “make sense” to anyone besides yourself, and half the time it won’t make sense to you either. Don’t let the fear and projections of others impact or sway the way your show up in the world.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
I discovered my work through the Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron, this has been hands down a book I return to over and over again. I discover parts of myself through each time I return to the practice.
