Meet Alyssa Hoffman

We were lucky to catch up with Alyssa Hoffman recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alyssa, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Overcoming imposter syndrome required me learning how to trust myself. In order to trust myself, I had to practice keeping small promises every single day to myself. It was taking those consistent actions every single day that created my new habits and those habits created the person I am. Your fears can’t argue with the truth, and seeing the results that came from actually doing the things I said I was going to do made the thought of not being worthy enough finally go away.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Five years ago, I quit my Fortune 500 job, sold my possessions and moved onto a tour bus to manage the band, WAYLAND. I had never seen a band cultivate a more powerful or invested fanbase. I have since created my own record label services company The Service, expanded to manage other artists and serve on the board for the Women’s Music Business Association. I intend to develop artists and their fanbases into relationships that create legacy careers.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The top three qualities that matter in humans the most are listening, setting boundaries, and pivoting. You have to learn to listen to yourself and to other people and know your yes from your no, which is where boundaries come in, and you have to be prepared for things to change. The only thing we know for sure is things will change and you have to be ready in the moment for that so it doesn’t blindside you when it happens. Life is a dance and I’ve learned to be ready to make my next move without stepping on anyone else’s toes through this practice.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
The most influential person in my life has been my partner, Phillip. He is the leader of the band WAYLAND so technically that makes him my business partner, my boss, and my lover all in one and I would not have it any other way. He has taught me so much about business and life through being creating and cultivating a “yes, and” attitude and serving other people. The way he navigates conversations, conflict, and relationships is astounding to watch and I’m so grateful I get to walk alongside him everyday during this journey.
