We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alyssa Nicole. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alyssa below.

Hi Alyssa, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Did you always know what you wanted to do?
Some people do. Some people know from childhood that they’re going to be a teacher, a pilot, a basketball player. But I wasn’t one of those people.

When I was little, I wanted to be everything—from an astronaut to a ballerina. And even after I graduated from college, I still didn’t know what I wanted to do.

Honestly, I feel like my purpose found me.

In 2015, I started my journey toward a plant-based lifestyle. I just wanted to be healthier and prevent disease. At the time, I didn’t know anyone else who was cutting back on animal products. Everyone thought I was a little crazy—truthfully, I thought I was too.

But something shifted. That change sparked curiosity, and people started asking me how I was doing it. That’s when it clicked: I wanted to help people prevent disease, live longer, higher-quality lives, and find their inner Blyss.

And from there, Living Blyss was born.

I believe purpose reveals itself over time. For some, it shows up early. For others, we have to peel back the layers of life to discover it. Either way, it’s always unfolding.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I spent years teaching myself how to live healthier by harnessing the power of plants. I witnessed many people I love fall victim to diet-related illnesses, including my grandmother, who suffered a long battle with diabetes and heart disease. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2016 and went on to pursue a career in the nonprofit sector.

I’m passionate about ensuring everyone has access to healthy food and knowledge about wellness, which led me to advocate for Food Equity — standing up for people who, like me, deserve better. Unfortunately, along the way I experienced racism. When I spoke up about feeling unheard and undervalued, I lost my job. I found myself back in my childhood home, grieving my grandmother and wondering what to do next.

Living Blyss was born from that need to create a safe space — one where I could heal myself through the power of food and share that journey with you. Whether you’re dealing with a diet-related illness, ready to break up with diet culture, or simply looking to feel better in your body, Living Blyss meets you where you are.

I am so grateful for the chance to connect with you and be part of your healing journey.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I call these the Three Keys to Plant-Based:

1. Develop your mindset

2. Learn how to research

3. Learn how to cook

Everything starts with mindset. If you believe something is too hard or impossible, you’ve already talked yourself out of it. You have to succeed mentally before you see success in your everyday life. Ask yourself: do you have a growth mindset or a fixed one? If it’s fixed, that’s okay—mindset can change. But growth starts with awareness and acceptance.

Second, never follow the crowd blindly. Learn how to research and think critically. Find credible sources, read beyond the first page of Google, and explore both sides of an argument. The more you understand why you’re making this lifestyle change, the stronger your commitment becomes—especially when you’re challenged by others.

And finally: learn how to cook. Most of your meals will be from scratch, so you’ll need to build skills in the kitchen. When I started, I completely changed how I shopped and cooked. I taught myself using YouTube, Pinterest, and lots of trial and error. I remixed my favorite meals and made plant-based versions—now I can make mac n’ cheese five different ways and love every one of them. Cooking is part of the joy and creativity of this lifestyle.

So if you’re just starting out, be curious, stay flexible, and always return to your why—that’s what will keep you going when the road gets bumpy.

How would you describe your ideal client?

My ideal client is someone who’s ready for change—even if they’re not sure where to start. They might feel overwhelmed by health challenges, frustrated with dieting, or confused about what’s actually “healthy,” but deep down, they know they want better.

They don’t have to be perfect. In fact, I love working with people who’ve tried everything and are finally ready to do things differently—with intention, compassion, and curiosity.

What makes someone ideal is openness. A willingness to try new things, unlearn some old patterns, and stay committed through the ups and downs. You don’t have to have it all together. You just need to be ready to take that first step—and keep showing up. I’ll meet you there.
