Meet Alyssa Stencavage

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alyssa Stencavage a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alyssa, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

I am passionate and speak with authority and poise. I am super silly and sassy, but I know when it’s time to be serious. I want to be remembered positively and respectfully.

It also helps that I’m tall. 😉

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My name is Alyssa and I am a Health and Wellness Coach, focusing on developing healthier eating habits to overcome food sensitivities. I have been living with them for about nine years.

What was once a huge frustration has turned into a passion and a desire to help others feel better in their own bodies. I didn’t know if or how I was going to finally feel comfortable in my skin again, but when I knew better, I did better.

Some of the most exciting aspects of this journey are: A real point of aggravation became a way for me to change lives. I was at one point ready to throw in the towel, but I see now why I wasn’t supposed to. The other factor is that if a woman (or man) experiences food sensitivities, it is actually the very thing that causes the issues that will relieve them: Food. That’s what I love helping women (and men) understand.

It is my mission, privilege, and honor to be in this space and help adults like myself navigate this terrain.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

My adaptability, inquisitiveness, and tenacity.

It sounds cliché, but be able to adjust to a situation with ease and poise… not stress and a frantic mind. It makes life easier for everyone, including and especially you.

Ask questions and don’t be afraid. I’ve had people tell me I ask too many questions, but it’s a huge part of who I am and how I’ve discovered some of the most important things about people – that I otherwise might not. Dig deep and be gentle, and if there seems more to dig for, do it.

I don’t give up easily. I often don’t stop an endeavor unless there’s a glaring reason to or it’s hurting me. But I have no doubt that my persistence and desire to get it right has had a major impact on where I am today and will always be a top factor in my success. Always stay the course, especially if it’s something you truly value.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

Embracing uncertainty, leaning into discomfort, and doing what I need to do to grow my business. Basically, not being afraid. With that, is also being more present in life and healing parts of myself. I have been very intentional about enjoying now instead of wandering to what hasn’t come yet.

I started my business in February of 2023 and I don’t really recognize the woman I was at that time. That’s a good thing.
